Fred Singleton
Fred W. Singleton,
83, of Lincoln died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be
from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
His funeral will be
at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holland and Barry, with Tom Gerdts
officiating.
Burial, with military
rites, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Camp Butler National Cemetery,
Springfield.
Singleton was a truck
driver before he retired in 1978.
He was a mechanic in
the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was born Jan. 25,
1919, in Ponca City, Okla., to Hugh and Mae Jonas Singleton. He
married Betty L. Finn on April 30, 1949, in Indiana. She survives.
Also surviving are
four children, Sandra Hurt of Farmington, Mo., Patricia Cross of Bethany,
Roger Miller of Lincoln and Mary Lou Guest of Litchfield; 14
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ivan Singleton
of Marion and Jeff Singleton of Lincoln; and one sister, Le Nora Leith of Lincoln.
He was preceded in
death by one son, Davin Miller; one daughter, Iris Chronister; one
brother, John Singleton; and one grandson, David Cross.
He was of the
Protestant faith.
He was a member of
Teamsters Local 276, American Legion Post 263 of Lincoln and a
lifetime member of Amvets.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s
choice.
Ella
Giani
Ella Giani, 92, of
Lincoln died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service
will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Holy Family Church in Lincoln,
with Father Thomas Taylor officiating.
Burial will be in
Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wis.
There will be no
visitation.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Giani was a
retired secretary.
She was born May 14,
1910, in New Rochelle, N.Y., to Matthew L. and Agnes Richardson
Donnelly. She married Paul Boffa on May 18, 1935, in New York City,
N.Y. He died Nov. 21, 1964. She married Joseph Giani on Nov. 2,
1973, in Lake Wales, Fla. He died Feb. 13, 1992.
Survivors are two
daughters, Mary Dowdel of Lincoln and Agnes (and William) Luy of
Colgate, Wis.; four stepsons, Joseph (and Anne) Giani Jr. of
Massachusetts, George (and Valerie) Giani of New Jersey, Carmine
(and Joan) Giani of New York and John (and Barbara) Giani of
Arizona; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded
in death by a grandchild, two brothers and one sister.
She was a former
member of Homemakers Club in Florida and of Altar and Rosary
Society.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Carl Hurley Jr.
Carl Hurley Jr., 81, of Lincoln died at
10:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at his home.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery,
Lincoln.
Hurley retired after 25 years as sexton
at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln, and after farming for 37 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Lincoln
to Carl and Anna Werkman Hurley Sr. He married Ruby Evelyn Dean on
Nov. 4, 1939, in New London, Mo.
Survivors are his wife, of Lincoln; two
sons, Richard (and Karen) Hurley of Chenoa and Carl (and Marsha)
Hurley of Lincoln; three daughters, Connie Harp of Lincoln, Kay (and
Don) Carlin of Chestnut and Marsha Hurley of Dearborn, Mich.; 14
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard,
William and Edwin Hurley of Lincoln and Virgil Hurley of Campana
North, Oceanside, Calif.; and two sisters, Thelma Fulk and Linda
Woodard of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by one son,
Roy; a half brother, Claude Hurley; a brother, Harold; one grandson,
David Towle; and one great-granddaughter, Alyson Payne.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Memorials
may be made to Hospice of Central Illinois.

Willis Roeder
Willis L. Roeder, 70,
died Monday, July 29, 2002, at his home in Lakeland, Fla.
Lanier Funeral Home
in Lakeland, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Roeder was a
custodian at Lincoln Community High School before moving to Florida
in 1997.
He was born Sept. 2,
1931, in Cressona, Pa.
Survivors are his
wife, Shirley L. Roeder of Lakeland, Fla.; three sons, Willis Roeder
Jr. of Morton, Donald Roeder of Morton and Terry Roeder of Lincoln;
one daughter, Brenda Booth of Dana; five grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; and two sisters and one brother, all in
Pennsylvania.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
Church, American Legion Post 235, Eagles Lodge 2808 and Moose Lodge
1441.
