Fred Singleton

Fred W. Singleton, 83, of Lincoln died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holland and Barry, with Tom Gerdts officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.

Singleton was a truck driver before he retired in 1978.

He was a mechanic in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Ponca City, Okla., to Hugh and Mae Jonas Singleton. He married Betty L. Finn on April 30, 1949, in Indiana. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Sandra Hurt of Farmington, Mo., Patricia Cross of Bethany, Roger Miller of Lincoln and Mary Lou Guest of Litchfield; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ivan Singleton of Marion and Jeff Singleton of Lincoln; and one sister, Le Nora Leith of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by one son, Davin Miller; one daughter, Iris Chronister; one brother, John Singleton; and one grandson, David Cross.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 276, American Legion Post 263 of Lincoln and a lifetime member of Amvets.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.


Willis Roeder

Willis L. Roeder, 70, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at his home in Lakeland, Fla.

Lanier Funeral Home in Lakeland, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Roeder was a custodian at Lincoln Community High School before moving to Florida in 1997.

He was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Cressona, Pa.

Survivors are his wife, Shirley L. Roeder of Lakeland, Fla.; three sons, Willis Roeder Jr. of Morton, Donald Roeder of Morton and Terry Roeder of Lincoln; one daughter, Brenda Booth of Dana; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters and one brother, all in Pennsylvania.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 235, Eagles Lodge 2808 and Moose Lodge 1441.

 

Helen Brosamer

Helen D. Brosamer, 90, of Lincoln died at 4:25 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at St. John’s Hospice North in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kerrigan-Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. A rosary service will be at 5 p.m.

Her funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church in Lincoln, with Monsignor E. Edward Higgins officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Brosamer retired in 1975 after working 23 years at the Lincoln Garment Factory.

She was born Oct. 23, 1911, in Lincoln to John W. and Theresa Ohmes Pfeifer. She married Raymond F. Brosamer on Aug. 19, 1933, in Peoria. He died May 13, 1950.

Survivors are Janet (and Rex) Berger of Lincoln, Lowell (and Vivian) Brosamer of Decatur, Patricia (and Thomas) Berger of Lincoln, Richard (and Rosanne) Brosamer of Lincoln, Carol (and Sam) Yeazle of Lincoln and Michael (and Janet) Brosamer of Lincoln; 28 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

She was a 1931 graduate of Lincoln College.

Memorials may be made to Carroll Catholic Grade School.
