Max E. Newman, 70, of 
            Lincoln died at 7:09 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at his home.
            Visitation will be 
            from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in 
            Lincoln.
            His funeral will be 
            at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holland and Barry.
            Burial will be in New 
            Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
            Newman worked 25 
            years at Lincoln Developmental Center. He was also a barber in 
            Atlanta and Elkhart for several years, and he did trucking for Bud 
            Hoagland and Curry Ready Mix of Lincoln. Earlier in life he worked 
            on the railroad.
            He was born July 3, 
            1932, in Strasburg to Albert H. and Pauline E. Krueger Newman. He 
            married Joyce Sylvia in Massachusetts, and she preceded him in 
            death. He married Barbara J. Myers on Oct. 24, 1969, in Lincoln. She 
            died Oct. 2, 2001.
            Survivors are two 
            sons, Max E. Jr. (and Kathy) Newman of North Dartmouth, Mass., and 
            Mark E. (and Jessica) Newman of Fairhaven, Mass.; two stepsons, 
            Harvey (and Tana) Lane of Gurley, Ala., and Bill Lane of Florida; 
            two grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Harry 
            Newman of Lincoln and Charles (and Lena) Newman of Delavan; and two 
            sisters, Dorothy Hardin of Torrance, Calif., and Mary Riggs of 
            Lincoln.
            He was also preceded 
            in death by one brother, Kenneth Newman.
            Memorials may be made to diabetes and 
            heart funds.
