Lila Stevens
Lila Stevens, 75, of
Lincoln died at 11:16 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
A memorial service
will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Railsplitter CRA of Lincoln, 135
Railroad Ave., with Father Thomas Taylor officiating.
Burial will be in
Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Miss Stevens was
employed at Lincoln Mental Rehab Center for 13 years.
She was born Aug. 12,
1927, in Rock Island to Emil and Myrtle Engels Stevens.
Survivors are an
aunt, Helen Engels, and cousins Marvin and Patricia of Rock Island.
She was preceded in
death by brothers and sisters.
She was active in church.
Helen Post
Helen I. Post, 92, of
Lincoln died at 3:11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at her home.
Visitation will be
from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. John United Church of Christ in
Lincoln.
Her funeral will be
at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald
officiating.
Burial will be in New
Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
She had been a
telephone operator in New Holland, farm wife and homemaker for her
family.
She was born May 24,
1910, at Middletown to Fred and Isabel (Boyer) Boyer. She married
Henry F. Post Sr. on March 7, 1929, in Lincoln. He died March 12,
1946.
Surviving are two
sons, Henry F. Post Jr. and William H. Post, both of Lincoln; one
daughter, Helen Beccue of Sherman; five grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister,
Mina Sampson of Lincoln.
She was also preceded
in death by one daughter, Donna Roschnafsky; one stepson, Ernest W.
Post; two brothers, Homer and Harold Boyer; and one sister, Rosa
McGrew.
She was a member of
St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln and the Charity Guild of
the church. She also taught Sunday School for many years and served
her church as a choir member. She had sung at funerals from age 16
into her 70s. She was a former member of the Cumberland Presbyterian
Women.
She was a graduate of
Middletown High School.
Memorials may be made to St. John United
Church of Christ in Lincoln.
Martha Berry
Martha Jennette
Berry, 79, of Lincoln died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at
Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.
She was cremated, and
arrangements are pending for burial in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
There will be no
visitation.
Mrs. Berry was a
homemaker for her family.
She was born Jan. 17,
1923, in Salt Creek Township, Mason County, to Lloyd and Ruby Tomlin
Jones. She married James Berry in April 1977 in Chicago.
Surviving are her
husband, of Lincoln; two sons, Raymond Benedict and Lyle Benedict,
both of Lincoln; two daughters, Ruby Skelton of Lincoln and Susan
Eatherly in Washington; 19 grandchildren; numerous
great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two
sisters, Mary Simpson of Lincoln and Betty Hall of Collinsville.
She was preceded in death by three
brothers, Bob, John and Lloyd Jones, and one sister, Bonnie Jones.

Myrtle Sheley
Myrtle E. Sheley, 75,
of Lincoln died at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be
from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln.
Her funeral will be
at the church at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Mark Carnahan
officiating.
Burial will be in
Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs. Sheley retired
in 1992 from working at State Bank of Lincoln.
She was born June 13,
1927, at New Holland to Charles F. and Bertha Puls Maaks. She
married Wayne E. Sheley on June 18, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in
New Holland.
Survivors are her
husband, of Lincoln; one daughter, Sue Sheley Rehtmeyer of Lincoln;
two sons, Lynn (and wife Margie) Sheley of Lincoln and Lee (and
Kathy) Sheley of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and two brothers,
Melvin (and Ethel) Maaks of San Jose and Marion (and Mildred) Maaks
of Lincoln.
She was a member of
Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, the Missionary Society of the
church and the Lutheran Layman’s League. In addition she served as a
Sunday school teacher, Sunday school treasurer and stewardship board
member. She was also a member of the Linpro Square Dance Club.
Memorials may be made
to Zion Lutheran School, the church’s organ fund or to the American
Cancer Society.
Willis Roeder
A memorial service
for Willis L. Roeder will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Lincoln
Eagles Lodge 2708, 1621 N. Kickapoo St. in Lincoln. A luncheon at
the lodge will immediately follow the service.
Roeder, 70, died July
29, 2002, at 5:30 p.m. at his home in Lakeland, Fla.
He was a custodian at
Lincoln Community High School before he retired.
He was a U.S. Army
veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He was born Sept. 2,
1931, in Cressona, Pa., to John and Mary Kramer Roeder. He married
Shirley L. Brown on Dec. 11, 1954, in Mount Vernon.
Survivors are his
wife, of Lakeland, Fla.; one daughter, Brenda Booth of Dana; three
sons, Willis Roeder Jr. of Morton, Donald Roeder of Morton and Terry
Roeder of Lincoln; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two
sisters, Mary Fox of Summit Station, Pa., and Shirley Umbenhauer of
Schuylkill Haven, Pa.; and one brother, John Roeder of Schuylkill
Haven, Pa.
He was preceded in
death by two brothers and one sister.
He was a member of
American Legion Post 263, Eagles Lodge 2708 and Moose Lodge 1441.
