to relieve suffering from world disasters.

The tour can be followed in any order
on Sunday between 1 and 4 p.m., beginning at any of the homes.
Tickets for the entire tour can be purchased for $5 at any of the

A special stop on the tour includes Mrs.
Claus’s Workshop. You will find jams, jellies, baked goods and
some holiday crafts great for gift giving for sale there. It will be
            in the Appels’ garage.

            The Postville Courthouse will be
open during the same hours in conjunction with the tour that day.
            Harvest
coordinator Pat Snyder says, "If the tour goes well, this could be a
record year for the Harvest, which would be an extra special
blessing in light of state of the economy. Even if the home tour
does not go well, the Harvest has been greatly blessed!"

For many people, women in particular,
today is a day long anticipated. Some women I know spend a
couple months training for this day. They go to bed early on
Thanksgiving night so they can be at the door an hour before Sears
opens. It reminds me of the ticket lines for "Star Wars I:  The
Phantom Menace." These women are shopping devotees!

But what happens for those of us who
simply cannot stomach the thought of fighting with 15 other
people for that last blue scarf in the bottom of the bin or hauling
200 pounds of Christmas gifts the five miles back to the car? Well,
I have a couple of suggestions for you.

First, you can shop here in downtown.
That's right! The square is just loaded with fun shops bursting
with holiday sales. Three Roses, for example, is having their
annual open house this weekend. Serendipity Stitches has special
holiday hours starting today. And That Place/Merle Norman and MKS
Jewelers have beautiful gifts for the special woman on your list (or
for you special women to “suggest” to your special men). The square
is definitely where I plan to be this afternoon.

            Other available downtown stores include
Sugar Creek Essentials, Beans & Such, Treasure Chest, Prairie Years,
Action Rental, Becherer's Jewelry, Sew Many Friends, Seventh Heaven,
Cherished Memories, Wibben's Computer, Abe's, Lincoln Music Center,
Kathleen’s Hallmark/Lighthouse, Prairie Eye Center, Sports Plus,
Pink Shutter, Cookie's Bakery and Glenn Brunk Stationers.

Another suggestion -- this one's good for
those of us who ate too much turkey yesterday and still cannot move
very far -- is to shop online.  Many of your favorite holiday shopping
stores now have online stores -- some with the same holiday deals!
            Here's a list to try:

            J.C. Penney's preholiday sale

            Toys R Us two-day sale

            Barnes and Noble's holiday sale

            Amazon.com

            Bergner's

            Famous-Barr

            The Gap

            Office Depot

            Radio Shack

            Sears

            Wal-Mart

            Yankee Candle

And if your favorite store isn't in
this list, just search around -- most major stores now have websites.
And the best part is, you never have to leave your house. You can
order from your computer right now, and have your gifts delivered
directly to you… or directly to the recipient of the gift!
            So I hope
I've helped you with your holiday shopping. Good luck! And "Merry
            Christmas-Shopping Day!"
