Robert O. Beatty, 71, 
            of Elkhart died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at 1:15 p.m. at Vonderlieth 
            Living Center, Mount Pulaski.
            
            Visitation will be 
            from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in 
            Mount Pulaski.
            
            His funeral will be at 
            10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Mount Pulaski, 
            with the Rev. Carol Andricks officiating.
            
            Burial, with military 
            rites, will be in Elkhart Cemetery.
            
            Mr. Beatty retired 
            from Capitol Machinery Co. in Springfield, where he was general 
            manager of the agriculture machinery division.
            
            He was a U.S. Navy 
            veteran of the Korean War.
            
            He was born May 5, 
            1931, in Olney to Charles L. and Lucille Kline Beatty. He married 
            Nathalie Spence in 1957, and she died in 1985. He married Carolyn 
            Sullivan Buckles in Elkhart in 1988, and she survives.
            
            Other surviving are 
            one son, Thomas O. (and Tammy) Beatty of Springfield; one stepson, 
            Stan (and Joan) Buckles of Mount Pulaski; one daughter, Karen (and 
            Ron) Rigdon of Macomb; two stepdaughters, Crystal (and Brad) Welch 
            of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Stephanie Welch of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 10 
            grandchildren; one brother, Charles (and Gerry) Beatty of 
            Burnsville, Minn.; and one sister, Freida Preihs of Culpeper, Va.
            
            He was also preceded 
            in death by one sister, Barbara Royer.
            
            He was a member of 
            First United Methodist Church of Mount Pulaski.
            
            Memorials may be made to his church, 
            Vonderlieth Living Center or Elks Crippled Children's Hospital.
