Paul
Hoy, 62, of Lincoln died at 4:23 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, in the
intensive care unit at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home
in Lincoln.
There
will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Union
Cemetery, Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Carnahan officiating.
Paul
Hoy was owner of Hoy’s Welding, Truck Repair and Wrecker Service
of Lincoln.
A
veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Air Force from
1958 through 1962.
He
was born Dec. 18, 1939, in Lincoln to Ray P. and Gretchen Routson
Hoy. He married Bonnie B. Beaver on Dec. 27, 1959, in Lincoln. She
survives.
Also
surviving are one brother, Ed Connolley of Brookings, Ore.; one
sister, Charlene Simmons of Lincoln; and nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
He
was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Simmons.
Memorials

Stephen
Flater
Stephen
Guy Flater, 46, of Galesburg died at 11:12 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1,
2002, at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg.
His
funeral was Tuesday morning at the First United Methodist Church in
Galesburg, with the Rev. Scott Grulke officiating. Burial was in
Memorial Park Cemetery.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West
of Galesburg was in charge of arrangements, and visitation was at
their chapel on Monday evening.
Flater
was police chief in Atlanta for three years. He also worked for the
Galva police department for eight years and most recently as police
chief in Freeburg for three years. He retired in 2000.
He
served in the U.S. Army for three years.
He
was born Aug. 2, 1955, in Galesburg to Guy N. and Mary Lou Walter
Flater. He married Melinda R. Webber. He later married Tammy Sadler.
She survives.
Also
surviving are his mother, of Galesburg; one son, Mathew Maxwell of
Freeburg; two daughters, Sally Lou Flater and Stephanie Ann Flater,
both of Galesburg; one stepdaughter, Kristie Sadler of Freeburg;
three brothers, Michael John (and wife Lynn) Flater of Kennesaw,
Ga., James Howard (and Stephanie) Flater of Long Grove, Iowa, and
Jeffrey Ray (and Jackie) Flater of Aledo; and one sister, Mrs. Dee
(Jody) Morse of Lakewood, Colo.
He
was a member of the Illinois Police Chiefs Association, the Masonic
Lodge in Lincoln and the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.

Strampp
A
memorial service for Pauline Strampp has been scheduled for 2 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 10, at St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln. The
Rev. Richard Reinwald will officate.
Miss
Strampp, 89, of Lincoln died at 12:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at
St. Clara’s Manor.
Cremation
rites were accorded and burial is in Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Holland and Barry Funeral Home of Lincoln handled local
arrangements.
Miss
Strampp devoted her life’s work to the Odd Fellows Children’s
Home in Lincoln, where she was executive secretary. She worked there
from 1938 until she retired in 1995.
She
was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Mount Pulaski to George and Anna Turk
Strampp.
She
is survived by two nephews, Tim Strampp of Hickory Hills and Joseph
Strampp of Wilmington, N.C.
She
was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed, Bill and Robert Strampp.
She
was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln.
She
was a member of the Orphans Home Rebekah Lodge for over 50 years.

Lester
John Starr, 85, of Mount Pulaski died at 12:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4,
2002, at his home.
His
funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Frank Pieper
officiating.
Visitation
will be two hours before the service at the funeral home.
Burial
will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.
Starr
was a mail carrier.
He
was born Dec. 5, 1916, at Mount Pulaski to Raymond McCann and Eva
Starr. He married Naomi M. Wilham on Oct. 1, 1939, in Bowling Green,
Mo.
Surviving
are two daughters, Shirley (and husband Robert) Patterson of Mason
City and Patsy (and Fred) Lipp of Mount Pulaski; one son, Lester
Starr Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his wife.
He
was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mount Pulaski.

Jeanette
West, 60, of Lincoln died at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at
Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home
in Lincoln.
Her
funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holland and Barry, with the
Rev. Ron Simmons officiating.
Mrs.
West was a nurse and retired in 1991 after 20 years of service as a
state employee.
She
was born March 7, 1941, at Harrisburg to Arlie and Ressie Joiner.
She married Jerrald R. West on Jan. 19, 1965.
Surviving
are two sons, James R. West of Hartsburg and Jerrald R. West Jr. of
Witt; six grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Whitlock of rural
Lincoln and Lois Horchem of Mount Pulaski; and one brother, Arlie
Joiner of Lincoln.
She
was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Parkinson, and by her
daughter, Cheryl Lynn West.
She
attended Lincoln Church of God and was a Sunday School teacher
there.
She
graduated with high honors from the Lincolnland School of Nursing in
May of 197?.
