Mary
Lucile Goodpaster, 85, of Mount Pulaski died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday,
Feb. 14, 2002, at Vonderlieth Living Center.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.
Services
and burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Pulaski Cemetery, with
John Robertson officiating.
Mrs.
Goodpaster was a homemaker.
She
was born June 10, 1916, in Mount Pulaski to William and Lula Cheek
Arnold. She married Owen Goodpaster in Woodstock on Aug. 6, 1935.
Surviving
are one son, Robert Goodpaster of Mount Pulaski; two daughters,
Jeannie (and Mark) Des Pres of Forsyth, Mo., and Nancee Goodpaster
of Littleton, Colo.; five grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one grandson, five
brothers and one sister.
She
was a member of Mount Pulaski Christian Church.

Simpson
Harold
D. Simpson, 75, of Lincoln died at 6:04 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14,
2002, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
A
memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Holland and
Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Leslie Bradshaw
officiating.
Private
burial of ashes will be at Mount Pulaski Cemetery at a later date.
Simpson
retired from UPS in Decatur in 1976.
He
was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific
Theatre.
He
was born March 8, 1926, in Mackinaw to Clifford and Hazel Vannoy
Simpson. He married Jacqueline Moriearty on Sept. 22, 1946, in Logan
County.
Surviving
are his wife, of Lincoln; two children, Shawn Simpson of Lincoln and
Gay Boward (and David) of Lincoln; four grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; one brother, Roscoe Simpson (and Doris) of
Waverly, Iowa; and one sister, Ann McMillan (and Richard) of Normal.
He
was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and two
great-grandchildren.
He
was a member of Unity Church of Springfield and the VFW in Lincoln.
Melba
Herrin
Melba
F. Herrin, 78, of Lincoln died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14,
2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Her
funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Holland and Barry
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Paul Weber officiating. Visitation
will be one hour before the service.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs.
Herrin worked in the Dietary Department at Lincoln Developmental
Center. She retired in 1993.
She
was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Peoria to Albert and Emma Lynch Wagner.
She married Robert Leamon, and he preceded her in death. She married
D. Herrin on Feb. 9, 1979, in Tomaroa. He died Sept. 20, 1992.
Surviving
are one daughter, Brenda Lee Leevey of Lincoln; three stepchildren,
Bonita Ryan, Dan Herrin and Pam Herrin; 11 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by three sons, James Robert Leamon, William
Eugene Leamon and Johnny Ray Leamon; one daughter, Melba June Leamon;
three brothers, George, Merle and Tommy Wagner; and one sister,
Mildred Mabee.
She
was of the Christian faith.
Memorials
may be made to the donor’s choice.

Doris Schaefer
Montia
Doris Schaefer, 93, of Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln, formerly
of Chicago, died at 12:57 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002 at Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Mrs.
Schaefer was cremated, and committal of ashes will be private.
There
will be no services.
Holland
and Barry Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
Mrs.
Schaefer was a hairdresser for many years in Chicago and Lincoln.
She
was born April 26, 1908, in Latham to Charles and Ida Elizabeth
Wright Dittman. She married Raymond Schaefer in Mount Pulaski on
June 29, 1963.
She
was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters.
One
niece, Rosemary Carl of Nipomo, Calif., survives.
Mrs.
Schaefer was a 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge of Lincoln.
She
was a graduate of Mount Pulaski High School.

Marvin
Winter
Marvin
H. Winter, 74, a lifelong Beason resident, died at 7:57 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at his property in Atlanta.
Visitation
will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Holland and Barry
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
His
funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the
Rev. Ray Hudson officiating.
Burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Waynesville.
Winter
was a rural letter carrier for 39 years and retired from that work
in 1995. He was also the owner of a trucking and corn shelling
business.
He
was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Beason to Martin C. and Irma Mueller
Winter. He married Phyllis J. Rich on Oct. 22, 1949, in Waynesville.
She survives.
Other
survivors are three sons, Gene of Mossville, Steven (and Deborah) of
Bloomington and Terry of Beason; and four grandchildren, Erin (and
Chad) Keefe, Christina and Timothy, all of Normal, and Scott of
Bloomington.
He
was preceded in death by a brother, Carl.
As
a longtime active member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association,
he served as a voting delegate at the state and national
conventions. He was named Outstanding Rural Mail Carrier in 1994. He
was also president of the Illinois Retired Mail Carriers
Association.
He
served as road commissioner and trustee for Oran Township.
He
was a charter member and former chief of the Beason Fire Department
and past president of the Beason Community Club.
He
enjoyed attending sporting events and watching his children and
grandchildren participate. He liked country music and attended many
live performances. He also enjoyed traveling the country and meeting
people. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He
was a graduate of Beason Community High School.
Memorials
may be made to the Beason Fire Protection District, Beason Methodist
Church or Atlanta Rescue Squad.
Charles
‘Doc’ Finfrock
Charles
E. "Doc" Finfrock, 82, of Waynesville died at 10:54 a.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.
Visitation
will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta.
His
funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with
the Rev. Al Simonson officiating.
Burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Waynesville.
Finfrock
farmed in the Waynesville area all his life. He also was a rural
mail carrier in the U.S. Postal Service. He worked out of the
Atlanta post office and retired in 1988 after 27 years of government
service.
He
was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He
was born Aug. 4, 1919, at Waynesville to George W. and Nellie
Williams Finfrock. He married Jean Brumfield on June 25, 1949, at
Wapella. She survives.
Also
surviving are three sons, Steve Finfrock of Effingham, Dave Finfrock
of Waynesville and Bob (and wife Sharon) Finfrock of Waynesville;
two grandchildren, Stacy and Andrew Finfrock; one brother, Lonnie
Finfrock of Wasila, Alaska; three sisters, Grace (and husband
Francis) Goff of Mission Viejo, Calif., Lottie Scott of Rockford and
Elsie (and Casey) Fletcher of Camdenton, Mo.; and several nieces and
nephews.
He
was preceded in death by three brothers, Bowen, Donald and Barney
Finfrock.
He
was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association.
Memorial
