Ann
Fry, 83, of Lincoln died at 11:28 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Kerrigan Funeral Home
in Lincoln.
A
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in
Lincoln at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating.
Burial
will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs.
Fry was a dietary supervisor at Logan Correctional Center. She also
operated the family bait shop.
She
was born May 17, 1918, in Lincoln to William and Alice McNally
Hickey. She married Byron Fry on Dec. 25, 1943, in Lincoln. He died
May 11, 1965.
Surviving
are four sons, Michael (and wife Lonna) Fry of Clinton, Pat Fry of
Lincoln, Ray (and wife Katie) Fry of Lincoln and Mark Fry of
Lincoln; two daughters, Ann Mardis of Lincoln and Kathy (and husband
Brian) Diamond of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
She
was also preceded in death by one son, six brothers and one sister.
She
was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln and the American
Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
She
was an avid hunter and fisherman with her family.

Simkins
Cyril
C. Simkins, 86, of Lincoln died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23,
2002, at his home.
Visitation
will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the First Christian
Church of Lincoln.
Graveside
services, with Tom Gerdts and Paul Odum officiating, will be at
Mount Olive Cemetery, Champaign, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Simkins
was a retired Christian minister.
He
was born Dec. 14, 1915, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Lester and Harriet
Stone Simkins. He married Mary Shanks on March 12, 1940, in
Rogersville, Tenn.
Surviving
are his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter, Mary Ann Offenstein of
Champaign; two sons, Jim (and Sheryl) Simkins of Bloomington and Ron
(and Donna) Simkins of Urbana; seven grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and one brother, Carl Simkins of Gary, Ind.
He
was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
He
received degrees from Johnson Bible College, the University of
Tennessee, Butler University and Fuller Theological Seminary.
He
was the pastor for five Christian churches, including service as
founding pastor of the First Christian Church of Farragut, Tenn.
He
served as professor of Bible and missions at Johnson Bible College,
Milligan College, Ghana Christian College, Mashoko Christian College
and Lincoln Christian Seminary.
He
and his wife, Mary, served as missionaries in Ghana and Zimbabwe for
10 years. He also did short-term mission service in Austria and Hong
Kong, and he helped start Kuki Christian Mission in northern India.
He
was a member of the First Christian Church of Lincoln for over 30
years.

Kuki Christian Mission or Maoz of Israel.

J.L.
Bradley, 74, of Lincoln died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002,
at the Veterans Administration hospital in Danville.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
The
funeral service, also at Fricke-Calvert Schrader in Lincoln, will be
at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, with the Rev. Roy Hostetter officiating.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Bradley
was a truck driver for Lincoln Developmental Center.
He
served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.
He
was born May 4, 1927, in Gillstrap Ky., to Jake and May Butler
Bradley.
Surviving
Bradley are two daughters, Brenda (and Robert) Hathaway of Eldorado
and Tammy (and Steve) Grather of Eldorado; one son, Rodney (and Pam)
Bradley of Springfield; five grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Duma (and Bill) Cowley of
Lincoln, Beulah Yeazle of Lincoln and Maggie Moore of Louisville,
Ky.
He
was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Sutton, and one grandson,
Rody Hathaway.
He
was a member of the Atlanta Christian Center.

J. Koester, 90, of Lincoln died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002,
at St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home
in Lincoln.
The
funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Good Shepherd
Lutheran Church of Lincoln, with Pastor Roger David officiating.
Burial
will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.
Koester
was a retired farmer. He also retired from Myers Industries in
Lincoln.
He
was born Oct. 16, 1911, at New Holland to Harman and Anna Kohl
Koester. He married Esther Anna Sahs on Jan. 27, 1938, in Lincoln.
She died Sept. 12, 1995.
Surviving
are one son, Wayne Koester of Boiling Springs, S.C.; two brothers,
P.H. Koester of New Holland and Bernell Koester of David City, Neb.;
one sister, Pauline Harris of Olney; and nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by one brother, Hank Koester.
He
was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Lincoln.

Loeffler
Elsie
Mae Loeffler, 58, of Lincoln died at 5:25 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24,
2002, in the emergency room at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Cremation
rites were accorded. There will be no visitation.
A
memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Holland and
Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs.
Loeffler worked at Lincoln Developmental Center.
She
was born Oct. 18, 1943, in Springfield. She married Rocky Squaire,
and he preceded her in death. She married John W. Loeffler on April
18, 1972, in Lincoln. He died Jan. 29, 1998.
She
was also preceded in death by her father, Allen Gum, and her
stepmother, Bernice.
Surviving
are one son, Michael Gum of Beaver Dam, Wis.; a stepson, Randy
Squaire of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Tom Gum of
Mechanicsburg; and one sister, Ann Smith of Florida. She was raising
her grandson Allen Michael Giles like her own son.
She
was of the Christian faith.

Harry
Prince, 96, of Kimberling City, Mo., formerly of Bloomington, died
at 6:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, in Kimberling City.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Kerrigan Funeral Home
in Lincoln. The rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and the wake
service will be at 6:45 p.m.
Graveside
services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln,
with Monsignor Edward Higgins officiating.
Prince
retired from Western Union Telegraph Co. in 1968.
He
was born March 4, 1905, at Sanborn, Iowa, to William and Bessie
Cutting Gorrell. He married Barbara Tabak on Aug. 17, 1929, in Las
Vegas, Nev. She died Aug. 20, 1995.
Surviving
are one son, Richard Prince of Kimberling City, Mo.; one grandson,
Warren Prince of Richmond, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren.
He
was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
He
was a former member of Holy Trinity Church in Bloomington.
Memorials

James M. Powell Jr.,
62, of Statesville, N.C., formerly of Mount Pulaski, died at 1:30 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in
Statesville, N.C.
Visitation will be Tuesday,
Feb. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.
The funeral service
will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader in
Mount Pulaski, with the Rev.
Carol Andricks officiating.
Powell was a floor
manager at Hunt Manufacturing in Statesville, N.C.
He served
in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961.
He was born Aug. 18, 1939, in
Illiopolis. He married Susan Marshall Powell on Feb. 9, 1969.
Surviving are one
son, Tim (and Susan) Woollen of Normal; one brother Ed (and Tess) Powell of
Bloomington; two sisters, Shirley (and Denzil) Clark of Forest City and
Carol (and Doyle) Pease of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and one
granddaughter,
Katherine Woollen of Normal.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, James M. Powell Sr. and Bonnie B. Kirby
Kennedy.
He was a member of
Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville, N.C.
Powell was
also an avid golfer and a St. Louis Cardinal fan.
