‘Bud’ Fitzgibbon
John
J. "Bud" Fitzgibbon, 72, of Elkhart, formerly of Broadwell,
died at 8:35 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital.
Visitation
will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Kerrigan Funeral Home,
Lincoln. The rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m.
The
funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Church in
Elkhart, with the Rev. Patrick DeMeulemeester officiating.
Burial,
with military rites, will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.
Fitzgibbon
was a lifelong farmer in the Broadwell area.
He
was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He attained the rank of
corporal.
He
as born Jan. 24, 1929, in Lincoln to John L. and Kathryn Van Meter
Fitzgibbon. He married Esther Cronbaugh on Jan. 14, 1956, in
Springfield. She died Nov. 23, 1992.
Surviving
are one son, Gerald Fitzgibbon of Broadwell; two daughters, Andrea
(and husband Jim) Monninger of Bloomington and Rhonda (and husband
John) Young of Champaign; six grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; two sisters, Agnes (and husband Albert)
Durcholz of Elkhart and Kathleen Williams of Elkhart; and special
friend Nancy Wassell of Springfield.
He
was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Elkhart, a 46-year member
of American Legion Post 616 in Elkhart, a former Broadwell Township
official, and a member of the Lincoln Knights of Columbus, Logan
County Farm Bureau, Antique Motorcycle Club and American Motorcycle
Association.

Elmer
H. Brinkmeyer, 89, of Lincoln died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30,
2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation

Funeral Home in Lincoln. The rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m.
The

will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lincoln.
Brinkmeyer
farmed in Menard County until he retired in 1992.
He
was born Dec. 18, 1912, in Logan County to Herman and Elizabeth
Schaub Brinkmeyer. He married Pauline M. Lechleiter on Feb. 16,
1946, in Lincoln. She survives.
Also
surviving are one son, Wayne E. Brinkmeyer of Les Clayes sous Bois,
France; two grandchildren, Vanessa Brinkmeyer of Paris, France, and
Alex Brinkmeyer of Les Clayes sous Bois, France; and four sisters,
Florence Dixon of Berkley, Lorene Tackman of Mason City, Dorothy
Wark of Middletown and Lucille Lee of Lincoln.
He
was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond, and three sisters,
Anna Brinkmeyer, Katheryn Price and Louise Whiteman.
He
was a member of Holy Family Church and the Menard County Farm
Bureau.

Carl
E. "Turk" Dawson, 83, of rural Stanford, died at 4:40 a.m.
Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer United Methodist
Church, rural McLean.
Funeral
services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev.
David Venter officiating.
Burial
will be in McLean Cemetery.

Dawson
farmed in the Stanford area from 1946 until he retired in 1983.
He
was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He
was born Jan. 26, 1918, at Saybrook to Lester and Gladys Huebner
Dawson. He married Louise Harris on March 8, 1939, at Keokuk, Iowa.
She died Oct. 1, 1993.
Surviving
are one son, David W. (and Vianne) Dawson of Stanford; one daughter,
Mary Ellen Backlund of Heyworth; four grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; and one sister, Maxine Benson of El Paso.
He
was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, rural McLean.

N. Nyberg, 23, of Poplar, Wis., died Dec. 25, 2001, in Wisconsin.
Graveside
services will be at noon Friday, Jan. 4, at Steenbergen Cemetery in
Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Paul Gilmore officiating.
Visitation
will be at Veail Chapel, Steenbergen Cemetery, one hour before the
services.

was born Jan. 10, 1978, in Springfield.
Surviving
are her mother, Nedra Trago Amys (and Richard) of Poplar, Wis.; her

Trago of Poplar, Wis., and James R. Makinen of Superior, Wis.; two
sisters, Jamie Makinen of Calumet, Minn., and Tabitha Thoennes of
Bovey, Minn.; her maternal grandmother, Kathleen Trago of Calumet,
Minn.; and her paternal grandfather, Jack Makinen of Grand Rapids,
Minn.
She
was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Robert Trago; her
paternal grandmother, Shirley Makinen; and Debbie Phelps.

Lovetta
"Betty" Butler, 92, of Mount Pulaski died at 9:55 a.m.
Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at her daughter’s home.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. This is the same time as visitation
for her sister, Myrtle Boyd, who died Dec. 29.
Funeral
services, officiated by Jon Rose, will be at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, the same
hour as services for her sister, Myrtle Boyd.
Mrs.
Butler was a homemaker.
She
was born May 25, 1909, in Hull to Leslie and Teanie Judy Ridgeway.
She married Gerald Butler in Buffalo on Feb. 23, 1932. He died Oct.
1, 1986.
Surviving
are one daughter, Sandra (and husband Donald) McCain of Mount
Pulaski; four grandchildren, Mark (and Christina) McCain of Mosinee,
Wis., Jerry (and Lyn) McCain of Oosterberg, Wis., Susan (and Daryl)
Clayton of Mount Pulaski and Steve (and Kim) McCain of Mount
Pulaski; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (and Ruth)
Ridgeway of Broadwell; and two sisters, Wilma Brown and June Butler,
both of Lincoln.
She
was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
She
was a member of Broadwell Christian Church.

Irene Boyd, 81, of Mount Pulaski died at 11:21 a.m. Saturday, Dec.
29, 2001, at Vonderlieth Living Center.

Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Mrs.
Boyd was a homemaker. She was employed by Pillsbury and CIPS in
Springfield.
She
was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Spaulding to Leslie and Teanie Judy
Ridgeway. She married Orville W. Cooley on June 13, 1952. He died in
1970. She married Dale Boyd on May 19, 1973, in Springfield. He
survives, in Mount Pulaski.
Also
surviving are two daughters, Nancy Cooley Vonnahmen of Springfield
and Janice (and Jeffrey) Holzworth of Taylorville; one stepson,
Danny (and Nancy) Boyd of Osage Beach, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Rita
(and Leonard) Remmert of Henderson, Nev., and Lana (and Bart) Miller
of Lincoln; two grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren; two
step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (and Ruth) Ridgeway
of Broadwell; and three sisters, Betty Butler of Mount Pulaski,
Wilma Brown of Lincoln and June Butler of Lincoln.
She
was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

was a retired farmer.

was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He
was born July 18, 1923, in New Holland to Herman and Bertha
Stoltzenburg Knollenberg. He married Alta M. Marcum on Feb. 26,
1944, in Mason City.
Survivors
include his wife, Alta Knollenberg of Lincoln; three daughters,
Sharon (and Paul) Koester of Beason, Sandy (and Greg) Mattingly of
Godfrey and Sheila (and Robert) Runyen of Loami; five grandchildren;
one great-grandchild; two sisters, Ruby Aper and Dorothy Hampe, both
of Lincoln; and three brothers, Kenneth, William and Norman
Knollenberg, all of Lincoln.
He
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland.
He
was a DeKalb seed corn dealer, a New Holland road commissioner and a
member of the school board. He was also a member of the New Holland
American Legion.
