Eugene
C. Arnold, 75, of Springfield died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2,
2002, at his daughter’s home in Springfield.
His
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at St. Peter’s
Lutheran Church in Emden, with Dr. Don Johnson, the Rev. Jay Johnson
and the Rev. David Anderson officiating.
Visitation
will be one hour before the service.
The
family will meet relatives and friends at East Lawn Memorial Gardens
in Bloomington for the burial at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Arnold
worked in farming and sales most of his life.
He
was born March 17, 1926, in rural Hartsburg to Clarence J. and Marie
J. Cross Arnold. He married Joy Sosamon on July 21, 1945, in Emden.
She died Nov. 11, 1980. He married Linda Huffman on Jan. 30, 1982,
in Lexington. She died June 16, 2000.
Surviving
are one daughter, Gay Anderson and husband David of Springfield; two
stepdaughters, Kelli Clay and husband Jeffrey of Kissimmee, Fla.,
and Conni Payne and husband Todd of Lexington; seven grandchildren,
Seth, Greg and Kimberly Anderson of Springfield, Tye, Clayton and
Chase Payne of Lexington, and Austin Jeffrey Clay of Kissimmee,
Fla.; and two sisters, Darlene Budd and husband Ron of Lincoln and
Carol Reiners and husband Alan of Hartsburg.
He
was also preceded in death by one son, Gregory Eugene Arnold, and
one granddaughter, Jenny Anderson.
He
was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Morganton, N.C., a
lifelong member of the Elks Club of Bloomington, and a member of the
American Numismatic Association and Antique Dealers Association.
He
had operated a feed store in Hartsburg, was a herdsman for Johnson
Farms in DeKalb and farmed south of New Holland with his father. He
showed cattle and trained and showed horses. He also owned and
operated the Pontiac dealership in Mason City. He worked in sales
for Smith-Scharff and GTE in central Illinois and for Draper
Furniture in Florida. He was also an antique dealer and coin
collector. While living in Lexington, he owned and operated the
Grand Hotel and Carriage House, and also served on the town board.
He
graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High School in 1943.

Stauffer
Francis
Stauffer, 90, of Lincoln, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002,
at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
A
graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Easton
Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Carnahan officiating.
There
will be no visitation.
Hurley
Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of arrangements.
Stauffer
was employed by the Logan Mason Rehab Center.
He
was born Nov. 4, 1911, to Marcellus and Maude Stauffer.
He
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
