Richard
L. Long, 60, of Mason City died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002,
at his residence.
His
funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hurley
Funeral Home in Mason City, with the Rev. Curt McCallister
officiating.
Burial
will be in Big Grove Cemetery in rural Mason City.
Visitation
will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Long
was a truck driver.
He
was a U.S. Navy veteran and was enlisted from 1959 to 1961.
He
was born Jan. 1, 1942, in Decatur to Lawrence and Mabel L. Blevins
Long. He married Elaine Romer in Groveland on Oct. 16, 1993. She
survives.
Also
surviving are one son, James L. (and wife Wendy) Long of Lebanon,
Ohio; three stepsons, Mark Romer of Mundelein, Matt Romer of Myrtle
Beach, S.C., and Michael Romer of Springfield; two daughters, Lisa
Croteau and Mandy Croteau, both of Mason City; and five
grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents.
He
was a member of American Legion of Mason City and the International
Brotherhood of Teamsters, serving 12 years as Steward of Local No.
627.
He
was an avid bowler for many years.
Memorials
may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Hospice Care of
Illinois.

Cooper
John
Walter Cooper, 62, of Mason City died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan.
5, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
His
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Assembly of
God Church of Mason City, with the Revs. James Sprinkel and Jason
Sprinkel officiating.
Burial
will be in Mason City Cemetery.
Visitation
will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
After
graduating from Marshalltown Community College, Cooper began a
career in agriculture related jobs while living in Iowa, Minnesota
and Kansas. In 1978, he began working for Pfizer Seeds (later
renamed Pfizer Genetics) in Mason City and DeKalb, where he was head
of the Farm Management Department. He currently was the National
Accounts Manager for Garst Seed Company of Slater, Iowa, and
traveled in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Deleware, and New
York.
He
was born Oct. 24, 1939, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to John Martin and
Evelyn Sanders Cooper. He married Judy Hennesy in Toledo, Iowa, on
July 7, 1961. She survives.
Also
surviving are one son, Jarret Cooper of San Franciso, Calif.; two
daughters, Ann Cooper of Mason City and Erin Cooper of Shakopee,
Minn.; and two sisters, Winifred Morgan of Hot Springs, Ark., and
Chloe Ann Hill of Tama, Iowa.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He
was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Mason City where he
served on the Official Board since 1987 and directed Easter
productions for many years.

Harold
Koester
Harold
L. Koester, 81, of New Holland died at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6,
2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
His
funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Zion
Lutheran Church in New Holland, with the Rev. Mark Peters
officiating.
Burial
will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln.
Koester
was a retired farmer, seed salesman and hail adjuster. Since
retirement he has enjoyed refinishing old furniture and garage
sales.
He
was born Oct. 4, 1920, in New Holland to Harry and Matilda Miller
Koester. He married Annis Harriss in New Holland on Nov. 24, 1945.
She survives.
Also
surviving are three sons, Merlin (and wife Diane) Koester of Marion,
Darwin (and wife Wilda) Koester of Stanford, and Paul (and wife
Sharon) Koester of Beason; one daughter, Sharon (and husband Ed)
Davison of New Holland; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild;
and one sister, Mildred Johnson of Lincoln.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, two brothers and
four sisters.
He
was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln and the Richmond
Community Club.

McDaniel
Nina
McDaniel, 85, of Atlanta was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m. Saturday,
Jan. 5, 2002, at her Logan County Residence.
Graveside
memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Mount
Pleasant Cemtery in rural Stanford, with Mr. Vernon L. Oakley
officiating.
There
will be no visitation. Quiram Funeral Home of Atlanta is handling
the arrangements.
Ms.
McDaniel was retired from the Lincoln Developmental Center in 1982.
She
was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Stanford to Ira and Hattie Prince Hulva.
She married Alvin McDaniel in Gary, Ind. on Sept. 25, 1938. Mr.
McDaniel died March 12, 1996.
Surviving
are one daughter, Bonna (and husband Scott) Johnson of Mason, Ohio;
one son, Gary (and wife Pat) McDaniel of Armington; two grandsons,
Willie McDaniel of Bloomington and Les (and wife Whitney) McDaniel
of Lubbock, Texas; and one great- grandson.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and two sisters.
Memorials
