Michael
E. “Mike” Cheek, 76, of Atlanta died at 2:12 p.m. Wednesday,
Jan. 9, 2002, at his residence at Goofy Ridge, rural Topeka.
His
funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Quiram
Funeral Home in Atlanta.
Burial
will be in Atlanta Cemetery.
Visitation
will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
Cheek
was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company in East Peoria. He
retired after thirty-two years in 1980.
He
was born May 1, 1925, in Atlanta to Walter and Mary Buss Cheek. He
married Marie Maloney Kindred in Louisville, Ky., on Aug. 4, 1966.
She survives.
Also
surviving are two sons, Mark (and wife Yvonne) Cheek of Lincoln and
Michael (and wife Liz) Cheek of Topeka; one daughter, Chris (and
husband John) Agee of New Holland; one stepdaughter, Sandra (and
husband Jim) Litwiller of Morton; one stepson, David (and wife
Cheryl) Kindred of Locust Grove, Va.; ten grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sharon Cheek of Phoenix, Ariz.,
and Weldon Cheek of Atlanta; and one sister, Shirley Thoman of
Shirley.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and
one grandson.
He
was a member of the Lincoln Eagle Lodge #2708 for forty-one years.
He was also a member of the United Auto Workers #974, Goofy Ridge
Sportsmen Club and Goofy Ridge Liars Club.
In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Hospice in Peoria.

A. Marrs, 81, of Lincoln died at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002,
at Christian Village Nursing Home in Lincoln.
She
was born May. 15, 1920.

Elizabeth Barden, 92, of Lincoln died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.
9, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Her
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Tom Gerdts officiating.
Burial
will be in Lucas Chapel Cemetery, rural Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ms.
Barden was born June. 3, 1909, in Logan County to Alonzo and Mary
Ellen Steinhour Bates. She married Alfred Kermit Beaver in Logan
County on Nov. 22, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1950.
Surviving
are two daughters, Gloria Kay Anderson of Baileyton, Ala. and Eva
Jane Ott of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren.
She
was additionally preceded in death by her parents, one brother and
six sisters.
She
was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or
The Harvest of Talents at Lincoln Christian Church.

Long
Richard
L. Long, 60, of Mason City died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002,
at his residence.
His
funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hurley
Funeral Home in Mason City, with the Rev. Curt McCallister
officiating.
Burial
will be in Big Grove Cemetery in rural Mason City.
Visitation
will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Long
was a truck driver.
He
was a U.S. Navy veteran and was enlisted from 1959 to 1961.
He
was born Jan. 1, 1942, in Decatur to Lawrence and Mabel L. Blevins
Long. He married Elaine Romer in Groveland on Oct. 16, 1993. She
survives.
Also
surviving are one son, James L. (and wife Wendy) Long of Lebanon,
Ohio; three stepsons, Mark Romer of Mundelein, Matt Romer of Myrtle
Beach, S.C., and Michael Romer of Springfield; two daughters, Lisa
Croteau and Mandy Croteau, both of Mason City; and five
grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents.
He
was a member of American Legion of Mason City and the International
Brotherhood of Teamsters, serving 12 years as Steward of Local No.
627.
He
was an avid bowler for many years.

Illinois.

John
Walter Cooper, 62, of Mason City died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan.
5, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
His
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Assembly of
God Church of Mason City, with the Revs. James Sprinkel and Jason
Sprinkel officiating.
Burial
will be in Mason City Cemetery.
Visitation
will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
After
graduating from Marshalltown Community College, Cooper began a
career in agriculture related jobs while living in Iowa, Minnesota
and Kansas. In 1978, he began working for Pfizer Seeds (later
renamed Pfizer Genetics) in Mason City and DeKalb, where he was head
of the Farm Management Department. He currently was the National
Accounts Manager for Garst Seed Company of Slater, Iowa, and
traveled in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Deleware, and New
York.
He
was born Oct. 24, 1939, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to John Martin and
Evelyn Sanders Cooper. He married Judy Hennesy in Toledo, Iowa, on
July 7, 1961. She survives.
Also
surviving are one son, Jarret Cooper of San Franciso, Calif.; two
daughters, Ann Cooper of Mason City and Erin Cooper of Shakopee,
Minn.; and two sisters, Winifred Morgan of Hot Springs, Ark., and
Chloe Ann Hill of Tama, Iowa.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He
was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Mason City where he
served on the Official Board since 1987 and directed Easter
productions for many years.
