Sale of Kerrigan Funeral Home keeps ownership local

[JUNE 27, 2002]  The family of the late J. Richard Kerrigan, owner of Kerrigan Funeral Home, Lincoln, has announced the sale of the funeral home to Don Peasley of Atlanta. One of only three funeral homes in Lincoln, the funeral home name will change to Kerrigan-Peasley Funeral Home effective July 1.

Dennis Kerrigan, family spokesman, said, "The family is pleased to have found a buyer who was born and raised in the Lincoln area. We think our father would be happy with our decision."

Don Peasley, 38, has worked in the funeral industry for 17 years in Atlanta and other locations throughout central Illinois, including Quincy, Decatur, Peoria and Bloomington.

Don has a long history of service to the people of Logan County through activities that include the 4-H Cooperative Extension programs and emergency medical and fire departments.

"I look forward to moving to Lincoln from Atlanta and continuing to serve the people of Logan County," Don said. "My goal is to provide quality and dignified service."

Kerrigan Funeral Home was opened in 1933 by John Kerrigan, father of J. Richard Kerrigan, at a Kickapoo Street address. The business moved to its current Delavan Street location in 1946. Family-run for nearly 70 years, this sale provides that the business will remain owner-operated.

The Kerrigan family thanks "the many families who entrusted their loved ones to the care of our father’s and grandfather’s business over the years," said Dennis. "We also thank Joe Rabbit for his years of service with the funeral home."

Joe is returning to his hometown of Streator.
