LCCS professors contribute to book [JULY 6, 2002] Essays written by Dr. Robert Kurka and Dr. Robert Lowery, professors at Lincoln Christian College and Seminary, are featured in a book from InterVarsity Press titled "Evangelicalism and the Stone-Campbell Movement." Kurka’s and Lowery’s contributions are among the 14 chapters comprising this significant volume that engages key thinkers from the Churches of Christ (a cappella) and Christian Churches (independent) with some of the leading theological minds in the greater evangelical community, such as Mark Noll, Craig Blomberg, H. Wayne House and Stanley Grenz. The book is edited by Dr. William R. Baker, professor of New Testament at Cincinnati Bible Seminary and a Lincoln alumnus. In his forward, noted historian Noll of Wheaton College writes: "The Restorationist tradition enjoys a long and honorable heritage of vigorous Bible scholarship. It is all to the good — for the Stone-Campbell movement as also for the broader evangelical community — when Restorationists once again join the kind of vigorous public discussion that Alexander Campbell himself did so much to promote." In this groundbreaking book, Kurka offers an essay on "The Role of the Holy Spirit in Conversion: Why Restorationists Appear to be out of the Evangelical Mainstream" (with a response from Denver Seminary’s Blomberg); whereas Lowery writes on "Biblical Models of the Church: Contributions of the Stone-Campbell Movement to the Church of the Twenty-First Century," with Faith Seminary’s Wayne House providing the "Evangelical Response." "Evangelicalism and the Stone-Campbell Movement" sells for $23, and is available through the bookstore at LCCS or in other retail outlets that carry InterVarsity publications.
