            Mildred Franz Mildred E. Franz, 73, 
            of Lincoln died at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at St. John’s 
            Hospital in Springfield. There will be no 
            services. Arrangements and 
            cremation are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home 
            in Lincoln. Before she retired, 
            Mrs. Franz was a receptionist for the Dr. L.J. Miller veterinary 
            office in Lincoln. She was born July 18, 
            1928, in Lincoln to Theodore and Wilhelmina Linkner Belcher. She 
            married Walter Franz on Aug. 31, 1947, in Lincoln. He preceded her 
            in death. Surviving are her 
            mother, Wilhelmina Belcher of Lincoln; one son, Michael G. (and Sue) 
            Franz of New Holland; one daughter, Suzette Hilst of Forest City; 
            four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one 
            step-great-grandchild; one brother, John Belcher of Mason City; and 
            one sister, Mary Louise Horath of Atlanta. She was also preceded 
            in death by her father, one brother and one sister. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church 
            of Lincoln.

            Hilma Schilling Hilma Schilling, 84, 
            of Elkhart died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at her home. Visitation will be 
            from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in 
            Lincoln. Her funeral will be 
            at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Elkhart. 
            Pastor Robert Hake will officiate. Burial will be in 
            Elkhart Cemetery. Mrs. Schilling was a 
            homemaker for her family. She was the Elkhart 
            Township clerk for 35 years. She was born May 18, 
            1918, in Elkhart to Howard and Lydia Hanner Lanterman. She married 
            Harold Schilling on May 18, 1941, in Elkhart. He survives. Also surviving are 
            one son, Robert (and Linda) Schilling of Elkhart; one daughter, 
            Carolyn Brooks of Elkhart; five grandchildren, Becky Brooks of 
            Elkhart, Jennifer (and husband Darin) Stoll of Chestnut, Melissa 
            Brooks of Springfield, LeeAnn Brooks of Elkhart and Kevin Brooks of 
            Elkhart; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Lanterman of Elkhart; and three 
            nieces, Kathy Beaver of Lincoln, Gaye Brian of Springfield and 
            Mickey McAttee of Springfield. She was preceded in 
            death by a brother, Howard Lanterman, and a sister, Julia McAttee. She was a member of 
            the Elkhart United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. 
            She served as financial secretary for the church for 37 years. She 
            was also a member of Elkhart Post 616 of the American Legion 
            Auxiliary. Memorials may be made to Elkhart United 
            Methodist Church and the Heart Association. 
 
            Wayne Klockenga Wayne Klockenga, 65, 
            of Petersburg died at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Mayo Clinic 
            in Rochester, Minn. Burial of cremains 
            will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery on Friday, July 19. The Rev. Mark Carnahan will officiate 
            at the 10 a.m. graveside service. Holland and Barry 
            Funeral Home, Lincoln, is in charge of arrangements. Klockenga retired in 
            1998 as executive vice president of Mason City National Bank, where 
            he had worked since 1964. He had formerly been employed at State 
            Bank of Lincoln. He served in the U.S. 
            Army. He was born May 31, 
            1937, in Hartsburg to Henry B. and Kate Westen Klockenga. Surviving are his 
            companion, Judy Stahl of Petersburg; one sister, Ruth (and Frank) 
            Krueger of Lincoln; two nieces, Cindy (and Jerry) Pagel of Lincoln 
            and Kaye (and Jim) Wessbecher of Lincoln; and one nephew, Roger (and 
            Sandy) Aughton of Brandon, Fla. He was preceded in 
            death by one sister, Elizabeth Aughton. He was a graduate of 
            Hartsburg High School. He was of the 
            Lutheran faith. Memorials may be made to the American

            Richard ‘Gene’ Singley Richard "Gene" Eugene 
            Singley, 76, of Emden died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, 
            at St. John’s North in Springfield. Visitation will be 
            from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in 
            Mason City. His funeral will be 
            at the same location at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Frank Pieper will 
            officiate. Burial will be in 
            Mason City Cemetery. Singley farmed for 
            several years and worked a variety of other jobs throughout his 
            life. He was born Nov. 5, 
            1925, in Mason City to Clarence and Bertha Onken Singley. He married 
            Elaine Imig on March 3, 1946, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, rural 
            San Jose. She survives. Also surviving is a 
            brother, E.J. "Toad" Singley of Mason City. He was preceded in 
            death by four children and one brother. He was an avid golfer 
            at Lakewood Golf Course in Bath. He was a member of 
            St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden. Memorial contributions may be made to the 
            church or to St. John’s North Hospice. 
 
            Melody Hufnagel 
            Melody Faith Hufnagel, 46, of Lincoln 
            died at 3:40 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2002, at her home. 
            Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. 
            Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. 
            Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. 
            Thursday at Prairieland Christian Church in Hartsburg. Chad Ragsdale 
            will officiate. 
            Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, 
            San Jose. 
            She was a factory and office worker at 
            Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Decatur. 
            She was born Oct. 5, 1955, in Lincoln 
            to Herbert J. and Nelda May Harms Rogers. She married Jerry Hufnagel 
            on July 25, 1998, in Clarendon Hills. 
            Surviving are her husband, of Lincoln; 
            her parents, of Emden; two daughters, Tamara Letterle of Normal and 
            Brianne Letterle of Lincoln; two stepsons, Joseph Hufnagel and John 
            Hufnagel, both of Montrose, Mich.; and two brothers, Mark (and 
            Patty) Rogers of Emden and Matthew (and Kim) Rogers of Downers 
            Grove. 
            She was a member of Prairieland 
            Christian Church of Hartsburg. Memorials 
            may be made to the building fund of the church.
