Charles ‘Tal’ Banister
Charles William "Tal"
Banister, 79, of Lincoln died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002,
at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.
Visitation will be
from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
His funeral, also at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Greg
Wooten will officiate.
Burial, with military
rites, will be in Irish Grove Cemetery, Middletown.
Banister retired in
1985 as a janitor as Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II.
He was born Feb. 4,
1923, in Menard County to Samuel L. and Lottie Whiteman Banister. He
married Mary Jane Hanson on Jan. 14, 1949, in Lincoln. She died Dec.
22, 1959. He married Bethel Newcome on Jan. 21, 1966, in Lincoln.
She survives.
Also surviving are
four sons, Charles A. (and Linda) Banister, David E. (and Becky)
Banister, Roy "Willie" (and Jo) Banister and Vern (and Vicky)
Banister, all of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and four
stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon
Banister of Lincoln; and four sisters, Katie Voyles, Vivian "Boots"
Skelton, Evelyn Ware and Phyllis Deavers, all of Lincoln.
He was also preceded
in death by two sisters.
He was a member of
Lincoln Church of the Nazarene and American Legion Post 162 of
Middletown.

Hilma Schilling
Hilma Schilling, 84,
of Elkhart died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at her home.
Visitation will be
from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
Her funeral will be
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Elkhart.
Pastor Robert Hake will officiate.
Burial will be in
Elkhart Cemetery.
Mrs. Schilling was a
homemaker for her family.
She was the Elkhart
Township clerk for 35 years.
She was born May 18,
1918, in Elkhart to Howard and Lydia Hanner Lanterman. She married
Harold Schilling on May 18, 1941, in Elkhart. He survives.
Also surviving are
one son, Robert (and Linda) Schilling of Elkhart; one daughter,
Carolyn Brooks of Elkhart; five grandchildren, Becky Brooks of
Elkhart, Jennifer (and husband Darin) Stoll of Chestnut, Melissa
Brooks of Springfield, LeeAnn Brooks of Elkhart and Kevin Brooks of
Elkhart; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Lanterman of Elkhart; and three
nieces, Kathy Beaver of Lincoln, Gaye Brian of Springfield and
Mickey McAttee of Springfield.
She was preceded in
death by a brother, Howard Lanterman, and a sister, Julia McAttee.
She was a member of
the Elkhart United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She served as financial secretary for the church for 37 years. She
was also a member of Elkhart Post 616 of the American Legion
Auxiliary.

David Tibbs
David G. Tibbs, 56,
of New Holland died at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Visitation will be
from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in New
Holland, with the Rev. Tom Phillips officiating.
Burial will be in
Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.
Tibbs was the retired
owner and operator of Tibbs-Bismark and Garrison Insurance in
Lincoln.
He was born Feb. 26,
1946, in Lincoln to Paul E. "Abe" and Anna Juhl Tibbs. He married
Sharon Balzarini on Jan. 7, 1967, in Oglesby.
Surviving are his
wife, of New Holland; his mother, of New Holland; two daughters,
Trisha Tibbs of Clarendon Hills and Margo (and Doug) Roethlisberger
of Sugar Grove; one granddaughter, Allyson Miller of Sugar Grove;
one grandson, Colin Roethlisberger of Sugar Grove; two brothers,
Darrell "Wes" (and Debbie) Tibbs of Lincoln and Dennis (and Beverly)
Tibbs of New Holland; and Gerda Tibbs of Mason City, an aunt whom
David cared for.
He was preceded in
death by his father.
He was a member of
Zion Lutheran Church of New Holland, National Street Rod
Association, Good Guy Rod and Custom Club, and New Old Stock Club.

Mildred Franz
Mildred E. Franz, 73,
of Lincoln died at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at St. John’s
Hospital in Springfield.
There will be no
services.
Arrangements and
cremation are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home
in Lincoln.
Before she retired,
Mrs. Franz was a receptionist for the Dr. L.J. Miller veterinary
office in Lincoln.
She was born July 18,
1928, in Lincoln to Theodore and Wilhelmina Linkner Belcher. She
married Walter Franz on Aug. 31, 1947, in Lincoln. He preceded her
in death.
Surviving are her
mother, Wilhelmina Belcher of Lincoln; one son, Michael G. (and Sue)
Franz of New Holland; one daughter, Suzette Hilst of Forest City;
four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one
step-great-grandchild; one brother, John Belcher of Mason City; and
one sister, Mary Louise Horath of Atlanta.
She was also preceded
in death by her father, one brother and one sister.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church
of Lincoln.

Richard ‘Gene’ Singley
Richard "Gene" Eugene
Singley, 76, of Emden died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002,
at St. John’s North in Springfield.
Visitation will be
from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in
Mason City.
His funeral will be
at the same location at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Frank Pieper will
officiate.
Burial will be in
Mason City Cemetery.
Singley farmed for
several years and worked a variety of other jobs throughout his
life.
He was born Nov. 5,
1925, in Mason City to Clarence and Bertha Onken Singley. He married
Elaine Imig on March 3, 1946, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, rural
San Jose. She survives.
Also surviving is a
brother, E.J. "Toad" Singley of Mason City.
He was preceded in
death by four children and one brother.
He was an avid golfer
at Lakewood Golf Course in Bath.
He was a member of
St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden.

church or to St. John’s North Hospice.
