Eva
Ann Cook, 95, of Broadwell died at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, March 13,
2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln.
Her
funeral, also at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, will be at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday. Jon Rose will officiate.
Burial
will be in McLean Cemetery.
Mrs.
Cook worked in housekeeping at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Before that she took care of many children in her home.
She
was born March 29, 1906, in Sommerset, Ky., to George Willis and
Elvira McClenon Rainwater. She married Harrison Cook on Feb. 17,
1920. He died Nov. 11, 1968.
Surviving
are two sons, Kenneth Cook of California and Harrison William
"Bill" Cook of Hobbs, N.M.; three daughters, Marlene (and
Kenneth) Ely of Lincoln, Ruthann (and Charles) Ridgeway Jr. of
Broadwell and Ollie Towner of Houston, Texas; a son-in-law, Dick
Martinie of Springfield; 33 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren;
17 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by two sons, George and James; three
daughters, Beatrice, Rebecca and Marian; four infant children; three
sisters; and six brothers. She was the last of her immediate family.
She
was a member of Broadwell Christian Church and the Ladies Fellowship
of the church. She volunteered at the Christian Village.
Mrs.
Cook loved her family and all those she took care of, including
children from these families: Reads, Lauers, Stanfield, Oltmanns,
Benners, Gearys, Reeves, Cosby, Yards, Kurtz, Abels and Newman. She
had many stories to tell about these children as they were growing
up. She touched many hearts.
She
also loved quilting, baking pies, reading her Bible, and she
especially loved her flowers.
Memorials
may be made to Broadwell Christian Church or to the donor’s
choice.

Douthit
Donald
E. Douthit, 70, of Lincoln died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002,
at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
His
funeral, also at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, will be at 10:30 a.m.
Friday. The Rev. Ray Hudson will officiate.
Burial,
with military rites, will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Douthit
was a retired supervisor from Cutler-Hammer-Eaton Corp. in Lincoln.
He worked 36 years in computer and data processing.
He
served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He
was born May 28, 1931, in Shelbyville to Earl and Bonnie Shutt
Douthit. He married Clara E. Davis on Aug. 31, 1952, in Atlanta.
Surviving
are his wife, Clara, of Lincoln; one son, Dr. Don E. (and Marcia)
Douthit of West Chester, Ohio; one daughter, Diane E.
"Dee" (and Eric) Loughmiller of Naperville; four
grandchildren, Ashley N. Douthit, Andrew N. "Drew" Douthit,
Nicki Loughmiller and Chad Loughmiller; and one sister, Donice K.
(and John) Payne of Tampa, Fla.
He
was preceded in death by one sister, Joanne Speciale.
He
was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln,
American Legion Post 263 and Lincoln Benevolent Protective Order of
Elks Lodge 914.
He
was an avid golfer and a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Memorials
may be made to Elks Crippled Children Fund, Logan County Paramedics
Association or the American Legion building fund.

Ann
J. Young, 95, of Lincoln died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002,
at St. Clara’s Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs.
Young was cremated. There will be no visitation.
A
memorial Mass will be at Holy Family Church in Lincoln at 10 a.m. on
Saturday, March 16. The Rev. Thomas Taylor will officiate.
Inurnment
will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.
Kerrigan
Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs.
Young worked as a presser at the former Gossett Cleaners for 33
years and retired in 1979.
She
was born July 22, 1906, in Burton View to Sylvester and Mary Holmes
Richards. She marred Alfred Young on Oct. 30, 1930, in Lincoln. He
died Aug. 21, 1968.
Surviving
are one son, Robert Young of Allison Park, Pa.; four grandchildren;
and six great-grandchildren.
She
was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
She
was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln.
Memorials
may be made to her church.

Elvira
C. Smith, 88, of San Jose died at 6:10 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002,
at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
Visitation
will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Hurley Funeral Home
in San Jose.
Her
funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at San Jose United Methodist
Church. The Rev. Don Doty and the Rev. Cindy Rettig will officiate.
Burial
will be in Green Hill Cemetery, San Jose.
Mrs.
Smith had been a secretary for Richard Smith Insurance in Mason
City.
She
was born Dec. 15, 1913, in San Jose to Louis and Anna Smith
Gruensfelder.
She
married Clarence Smith on Feb. 15, 1941, in San Jose. He survives.
Also
surviving are one son, Alan C. (and Lisa) Smith of Laguna Niguel,
Calif.; one daughter, Nancy (and Michael) Nykanen of San Jose; two
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Laurine
Loresch of Fox River Grove and Ruth Gruensfelder of San Jose.
Mrs.
Smith was a member of the United Methodist Church of San Jose and
was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of
the San Jose Women’s Club.
