Doris Petit
Doris J. Petit, 71,
died at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, at America House in Culpeper,
Va.
A graveside service
will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Mason City Cemetery. Father
David Taylor will officiate.
She was born Oct. 29,
1930, in Beatrice, Neb., to Martin and Emma Buss Frerichs.
Surviving are her
husband, Jack Petit; three sons, Theodore (and Julie) Schmidt of
Ypsilanti, Mich., Robert (and Evie) Schmidt of Los Angeles, Calif.,
and David (and Darcy) Schmidt of Hoffman Estates; two daughters,
Carol (and Donald) Brown of Lumberton, N.C., and Janet (and Jay)
Walton of Asheville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and one sister, Emma
Johnson of De Witt, Neb.
She was a member of
St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Culpeper, Va., and was pianist and
choir director at the church. She volunteered at Culpeper Regional
Hospital.
Memorials may be made
to the hospital or to her church.

‘Peggy’ Hamblen
Mary Roberta "Peggy"
Hamblen, 83, of Atlanta died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2002,
at Hopedale Hospital.
A graveside service
will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Atlanta Cemetery, with the Rev.
David Venter officiating. Then the family will greet friends from 11
a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church.
Quiram Funeral Home
in Atlanta is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hamblen was a
cook and custodian at the Atlanta Grade School and High School for
several years. She was also involved with Community Action and
served Meals on Wheels for over 30 years.
She was born Jan. 20,
1919, in Lincoln to Leander and Mary Delia Mullins Reynolds. She
married Homer Lee Hamblen on May 17, 1938, in St. Charles, Mo. He
survives.
Also surviving are
three sons, Homer Lee (and Roslie) Hamblin Jr. of Atlanta, Gary
Allen Hamblen of Mattoon and Gordon Ray (and Connie) Hamblen of
Waynesville; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by one daughter and four sisters.
She was a member of
the Atlanta United Methodist Church, Atlanta Woman’s Club and Royal
Neighbors of America.
She enjoyed playing
in the Wednesday night Pinochle Club and was an avid fan of the
Chicago Cubs and Bulls.
Memorial contributions may be made to the
Atlanta Rescue Squad.
