Hazel Arnold

Hazel M. Arnold, 84, died at 7:36 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at Mason City Area Nursing Home.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in Mason City. The Rev. Randall Paine will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Mrs. Arnold was a homemaker for her family.

She was born Feb. 19, 1918, in Green Valley to Leslie and Bertha Worstall Boyer. She married Howard Arnold on July 25, 1936, in Mason City. He survives.

Other survivors are three sons, William (and Janice) Arnold of Mason City, Robert (and Connie) Arnold of Mason City and Delbert (and Pat) Arnold of White Plains, Md.; three daughters, Bonnie (and Don) Onken of Easton, Connie (and Bob) Kemp of Mason City and Cheryl (and Bert) Hill of Lincoln; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola Wagner of Mason City and Florence Ruth of Green Valley.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Calhoun, and one great-grandchild.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Mason City.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research, 6 Drawbridge, Springfield, IL 62704.

 

Vernon Cooper

Vernon Cooper, 87, of Mount Pulaski died at 9:27 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Droegemueller officiating.

Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Beason.

Mr. Cooper was a farmer.

He was born Oct. 22, 1915, at Beason to William David and Pearl Sylvia Green Cooper. He married Lucile Leimbach on Aug. 7, 1937, in Chestnut.

Surviving Mr. Cooper are his wife, of Mount Pulaski; two daughters, Pat (and John) Grathwohl of Mount Pulaski and Kay (and Larry) Cyrulik of Mount Pulaski; two sons, Lee (and Judy) Cooper of Mount Pulaski and Gary (and Pam) Cooper of Mount Pulaski; eight grandchildren, Jeff Cooper, Scott Cooper, Chad Cooper, Heth Cooper and Greg Grathwohl, all of Mount Pulaski, Todd Grathwohl of Lincoln, Kenda Buenrostro of Mexico and Kara Cyrulik of Springfield; four great-grandchildren; Jordan, Jansen and Olivia Cooper, all of Mount Pulaski, and Luis Felipe Buenrostro of Mexico; and one sister, Aileen Westen of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ila Westen.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Mount Pulaski, where he served as trustee for many years. He sang in the church choir and ushered for over 50 years. He was also on the board of the Logan County Farm Bureau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the tuck-pointing fund at Zion Lutheran Church or to Zion Lutheran School, both in Mount Pulaski.
