Coletta Garber

Coletta M. Garber, 88, of Emden died at 6:32 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, in Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Kerrigan-Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Garber had owned and operated the Garber Restaurant in Emden since 1968.

She was born July 22, 1914, in Lincoln to William J. and Daisy Crunch Bushell. She married Carl Garber on June 8, 1934. He died April 3, 1968.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her longtime companion Leo Mammen and several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to the church or to Carroll Catholic School.

Thomas Berger

Dr. Thomas Lee Berger, 67, of Lincoln, formerly of Fredericksburg, Va., died at 1:46 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in his home.

His memorial Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Thomas Taylor officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 8:45 until 9:15 a.m.

Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lincoln.

Kerrigan-Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Berger was a retired research physicist. He had worked 33 years for the Naval Surface Weapons Center in Dahlgren, Va.

He was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Burtonview to Walter William and Anna Rebecca Bartmann Berger. He married Patricia Ann Brosamer on June 30, 1956, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lincoln. She survives.

Other survivors are five daughters, Krystal (and Terry) Bourne, Joela Berger and Cynthia Mason, all of Fredericksburg, Va., Teresa Edmonds of Midlothian, Va., and Karen (and Sean) Power of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one son, Kurt Berger of Raleigh, Va.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rex (and Jan) Berger of Lincoln and Dan Berger of Lincoln; and one sister, Joann Edwards of Dittmer, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Music Society in Lincoln. In Fredericksburg, Va., he was a member of Knights of Columbus 4304 and the church choir folk group performing at St. Mary’s and St. Matthew’s Catholic churches.

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Illinois and his doctorate from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2580 Federal Drive, Suite 403, Decatur, IL 62526; or to Visiting Nurse Association, 720 N. Bond St., Springfield, IL 62702-9914.

Mary Burge Adams

Mary Ella Burge Adams, 58, of Lincoln died at 7:21 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in Mason City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Don Hoover officiating.

Burial will be in Walker’s Grove Cemetery, Easton.

She worked as a spot welder for 37 years at Cutler Hammer in Lincoln.

She was born Nov. 23, 1943, to David and Ottie Calhoun King. She married Ronald Adams in April 1988 in Lincoln.

Surviving are her husband; three sons, Steve (and Doris) Burge of Lawndale, Michael W. (and Crystal Ann) Burge of Lincoln and stepson Ronnie Lee Adams of Lincoln; two daughters, Kathryn Wiser of Lincoln and stepdaughter Kathy (and Jerome) Hawkins of Oregon; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Dale King of Decatur, Edward (and Wilma) King of Tamaroa and Kenneth (and Vicki) King of Lincoln; and one sister, Fay (and Jack) Thomas of Decatur.

Mrs. Adams was a member of Lincoln Bible Church and volunteered for Logan County ESDA and REACT.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Bible Church or American Diabetes Association.
