Gary Shull

Gary Shull, 59, of Lincoln died at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at the U.S. Route 66 bridge south of Lincoln.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Union Cemetery, Lincoln. The Rev. Ray Hudson will officiate.

There is no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mr. Shull was a self-employed farmer.

He was born Jan. 14, 1943, in Latham to John and Jessie Matlock Shull.

Surviving are his mother, of Lincoln; two sons, Richard Lee Shull of Ossian, Ind., and Terry Ray Shull of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Ronald Dean Shull of New Holland; and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph Stone

Joseph L. Stone, 71, of Lincoln died at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:30.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holland and Barry.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mr. Stone was administrator of Friendship Manor in Lincoln. He was currently serving his community as a 5th Ward alderman on the Lincoln City Council. He had also served on the Logan County Board of Review.

He was born April 20, 1931, in Chicago to Joseph L. and Katherine Otis Sr. He married Colleen Carncross on April 21, 1972, in Lincoln. He married Angela L. Howerton on June 15, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.

Also surviving are children Carol Ann Stone of Okalahoma City, Okla.; Linda Stone Obrien (and husband John) of Palatine, Nina Renee Stone of Lake in the Hills, Leonard Joseph Stone of Springfield, Jennifer Renee McKinney of Lincoln and Michael Paul McKinney of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Jennifer Obrien, Daniel Obrien and Katherine Obrien, all of Palatine, and Sean Seghi, address unknown; siblings Randolph Wellington Saber of Orlando, Fla., Victor Calvet of Florida and Renee Van Arsdale of Des Moines, Iowa; and his stepfather, Frederick J. Untrauer of Urbandale, Iowa.

He was a member of Jefferson Street Christian Church in Lincoln, grand master of the Grand Lodge of Illinois, past grand master of IOOF Lodge 204 of Lincoln, past president of B’Nai B’Rith of Lincolnwood, 32nd degree Mason of Hiram Lodge of Madison, Wis., a member of Ansar Shrine of Springfield and the Ansar Legion of Honor in Springfield.

In the past, he had worked for WBBM and WGN radio in Chicago. He had also been a volunteer fireman and paramedic in Ankeny, Iowa, and a licensed real estate agent.

He was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio and had also completed post-graduate work at Cornell University in New York.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Home.

Dean Tibbs

Dean A. Tibbs, 77, of New Holland died at 2:37 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, with Jon Rose and Frank Bush officiating.

Burial will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.

Mr. Tibbs was a self-employed farm drainage contractor with Tibbs Drainage.

He was a veteran of the Illinois National Guard.

He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Corwin Township to Dan and Lucy Faulkner Tibbs. He married Gwendolyn R. Rankin on June 28, 1968, in New Holland. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Terry Dean (and Kathryn) Tibbs of Landisburg, Pa., Michael (and Rhonda) Tibbs of Virginia Beach, Va., Steve (and Vaughn) Tibbs of Lincoln and J. Robert (and Diane) Rankin of New Holland; two daughters, Betty (and Jerry) Hayes of Lincoln and Mary (and Schinova) Cory of Virginia Beach, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Roland Tibbs of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.

He was a member and elder of Broadwell Christian Church and a member of the Railsplitter Assocation.

He was a graduate of New Holland High School.

Elmer Roberts

Elmer Alwin Roberts, 85, of 1523 S. Seventh St., Pekin, died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

His funeral will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. John D. Richmond will officiate. Visitation will be two hours before the service. Cremation will follow the service.

A retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 34 in Peoria, he had worked for Strope Electric and later Schwartz Electric, both in Pekin. He retired in 1979.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Lincoln to Joseph and Viola Dean Roberts. He married Lois Emily Gehrig on July 21, 1946, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cynthia A. Roberts of Pekin and Barbara S. (and Donald) Oleski of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; one son, Brent R. (and Jan) Roberts of St. Peters, Mo.; three granddaughters; one brother, Milton (and Mary Ann) Roberts of Sun City, Ariz.; and one sister, Yolanda (and Dick) Simpson of Tremont.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.

He was a former member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pekin.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bird-watching and gardening.
