Judy Renner

Judy A. Renner, 61, of Lincoln died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at her home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Her funeral, with Tom Gerdts officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

She retired from Lehn and Fink after 20 years as an operator. She also retired as a housekeeper at St. Clara’s Manor, and she cared for Don and Margaret Splain.

She was born Dec. 21, 1940, in Mason City to Henry and Hazel Prather Losey.

Surviving are one son, Thomas Lyle Renner of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Theresa (and Kenny) Petersen of Lincoln, DeeAnn (and Scott) Snyder of Beason and Pamela Renner of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Charity Baker, Nichole Renner, Cody Petersen, Brandi Richardson, Danielle Snyder, Jacob Snyder, Jessica Welch, Braiden Turner, Shannon Renner and Shane Renner; three great-grandchildren, Devin Clark, Jaude Baker and Dameon Baker; one brother, Dale (and Shirley) Losey of Riverton; and two sisters, Evelyn Johnston of Highland Ranch, Colo., and Donna Hatcher of Lincoln.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Illinois.

Thomas Rule

Thomas Kinahan Rule, 77, of Illiopolis died at 5:25 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at St. John’s North in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Visitation Church in Illiopolis.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with Father Kevin Sullivan officiating.

Burial, with a graveside service at 2 p.m., will be in Arcola Township Cemetery, Arcola

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Rule was assessor for Illiopolis-Waynesville multitownship.

He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves during World War II and the Korean War. He enlisted in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1951.

He was born July 17, 1925, in Decatur to Harlie Fearn and Anna Pearl Kinahan Rule. He married Frances B. Barnes on June 25, 1966, in Charleston. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are one sister, Jean Rule (and John F.) Belt of Naples, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

He was a Roman Catholic with membership at Visitation Church of Illiopolis.

He was a charter past president of Lions Club, past president of Sons of American Revolution, past high priest of Royal Arch Masons, past commander of Knights Templar, past master of Mount Pulaski Lodge 87, member of Mount Pulaski Chapter 121, past high priest (1965), member of Mount Pulaski commandery, and past eminent commander (1965). He served on the committee of establishment when the Mount Pulaski Lodge Temple Association was formed, and at the time of his death he was the oldest tenured past commander. He was serving as secretary of Mount Pulaski Lodge 87, treasurer of American Legion and trustee of Visitation Church.

Vica Hazelwood

Vica Hazelwood, 90, of Atlanta died at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Heritage Manor in Normal, where she had resided since March 2001.

There will be no funeral service or visitation.

Interment of cremains will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Quiram Funeral Home of Atlanta handled arrangements.

She was born Aug. 16, 1912, at Ohio City, Ky., to Luther and Caroline Evans Daugherty. She married Earl Hazelwood on Jan. 15, 1928, in Kentucky. He died March 31, 1964.

Surviving are one son, Harrel Hazelwood of Hudson; one daughter, Susan Schofstoll of Lakeside, Ariz.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and one sister.

 

Lyndon Westen

Lyndon Westen, 54, of Emden died at 11:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at his home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hartsburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Rettig officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Westen was employed by Crawford, Murphy, Tilly Consulting Engineers as an engineer and was manager of the Peoria airport office.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was born Aug. 30, 1948, in Lincoln to Leonard and Aileen Cooper Westen. He married Nina Barry on Sept. 10, 1972, in Hartsburg.

Surviving are his wife, of Emden; one son, H.E. Westen of Emden; and his mother, of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Rita.

He was a member of Hartsburg United Methodist Church, member and past commander of the Emden Legion post, past president of Hartem Alumni Association and recipient of the association’s Wall of Fame Distinguished Alumni Award, past member of the Hartem school board, member of Emden Historical Society, timer for Hartem basketball for 20 years, timer for the IHSA Class AA basketball tournament, and was inducted into the IBCA Hall of Fame as a friend of basketball.

Memorials may be made to the Lyndon Westen Memorial Fund.

Louise Coombs

Louise M. Coombs, 89, of Lincoln died at 7:22 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tim Searby officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service time.

Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Coombs retired from Lincoln Garment Factory, where she worked as a seamstress.

She was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Salem, Ind., to Henry Herbert and Blanche Hazel Miller Board. She married Earl B. Coombs on Oct. 7, 1932, in Decatur. He died in 1970.

Surviving are one son, William E. (and Evelyn) Coombs of Des Plaines; three grandchildren, Liane (and Michael) Sanchez of Round Lake Beach, Larissa (and David) Harwick of Zion and Laurene Coombs of Des Plaines; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Harwick and Reid Sanchez; three sisters, Alice (and Howard) Tuma of Palos Heights, Marcella (and the Rev. Rollie) Brooks of Weatherford, Texas, and Carol Meents of Kankakee.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Gene Board, and two granddaughters, Kerry Marie and Lani Madej.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church. She also had membership at The Oasis senior citizen center and was a volunteer for the Red Cross blood bank.

Sean Riggins

Sean M. Riggins, 16, of Lincoln died at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. David Russell officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Sean was a sophomore at Lincoln Community High School.

He was born March 24, 1986, in Minot, N.D., to Kevin S. and Debra Bukowiec Riggins.

Surviving are his parents, of Lincoln; his maternal grandmother, Barbara Bukowiec of Perth, N.D.; his paternal grandparents, Barry and Sharon Riggins of Peoria; and his paternal great-grandfathers, Wayne Mitchell and Wilton Riggins, both of Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and paternal great-grandmothers.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln and the church’s youth group.

He participated in football and wrestling at Lincoln Community High School.

Memorials may be made to the wrestling or football boosters at LCHS, in care of CEFCU, Lincoln.
