[SEPT. 6, 2002]  On Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m., Park Meadows Baptist Church is hosting their third annual Red, White and Blue Sunday. This is a special day which allows the church to:

•  Honor and thank fire department, emergency services and law enforcement personnel in the area.

•  Motivate and challenge people to pray for, support, and appreciate those men and women who dedicate their lives each day to protect and serve us.

•  To hear the leaders of fire department, emergency services and law enforcement personnel publicly honor someone from their departments.

•  Teach the youth that these men and women are to be respected and obeyed.

•  Provide an opportunity for those who work in key areas to hear a message of encouragement from a nationally known and respected chaplain.

The special speaker will be Mark Rizzo. He is an FBI trainer; seminar speaker on gangs, organized crime, criminal justice and behavioral science; and executive director of FREEdom Flyer Ministries, which has more than 500 staff members serving law enforcement in 42 states and four countries.

A potluck meal after the morning service will be provided for all guests and their families and shared by members of the church.

[AUG. 31, 2002]  The youth group of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1140 N. State St. in Lincoln, is sponsoring a Friday night cookout and camping at the church, from 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 till 9 a.m. Sept. 7.

The event is a kickoff for Rally Sunday and is for all the congregation. Individuals, couples and families are welcome. You don’t have to spend the night to come enjoy the meal and evening.

The senior youth and junior helpers are planning the meal, games, campfire singing and other activities. Bring your lawn chairs, folding tables and frisbees. Bring harmonica, guitar or any musical instrument that travels well. Anticipate fun!

In case of rain, activities will move indoors.

Meal, drinks and tableware for supper and breakfast will be provided by the senior youth.

To stay overnight, you need to provide your own tent and sleeping supplies, such as a cot, mat, sleeping bag, pillow, flashlight and bug repellent. All children staying the night, if not of high school age or older, must be accompanied by an adult.

[AUG. 31, 2002]  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1140 N. State St. in Lincoln, will have Rally Day on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Starting at 9 a.m. the Sunday school will be celebrating with skits, singing and promotion to new classes. Students will also make T-shirts to take home.

The service at 10 a.m. will have special music from the Sunday school and will be accompanied by the church band. All members of the community are invited to attend.
