Frances Gleason
Frances M. Gleason,
77, of Elkhart died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, in St.
John’s Hospital, Springfield.
Visitation will be
from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Kerrigan-Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln,
with a rosary service at 4 p.m.
There will also be
visitation from 9:15 until 9:45 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s
Catholic Church in Elkhart. The funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m.,
with Father Patrick De Meulemeester officiating.
Burial will be in
Elkhart Cemetery.
Mrs. Gleason was a
registered nurse and worked at St. Clara’s Hospital until it closed.
She was also a volunteer on the Elkhart Fire and Rescue Department
for 15 years and was the only woman in the department when she
joined in 1974. She was a former chairman of the Logan County Red
Cross. For many years she kept the scorebook and stats for Elkhart
Grade School and Mount Pulaski High School.
She was born Jan. 14,
1925, in Ames, Iowa, to Louis L. and Winnie L. Hudson Ligon. She
married James E. Gleason on July 1, 1950, He died on May 15, 1997.
She was also preceded
in death by two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Gleason is
survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was raised in
Stillwater, Okla., and attended Oklahoma A & M College, where she
played the cello in the symphony orchestra. She was trained as a
nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago and then worked at Hines VA
Hospital, where she met her husband. They moved to Elkhart in 1956.
Mrs. Gleason was a
member of St. Patrick’s Church and was involved in the choir, lector
and sacristy.
She was also a member
of the VFW Auxiliary Post 616 and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
In May 1979 she was
named the Courier Citizen of the Month.

Robert Bode
Robert E. Bode, 51, of
McLean died at 5:55 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Heritage Manor
Nursing Home in Normal.
Visitation will be
from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta. A rosary
service will be at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral will be
at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church in Atlanta, with the Rev.
Thomas Taylor officiating.
Burial will be in
Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.
He was born Dec. 3,
1950, in Lincoln to Everett and Marjorie Pfeifer Bode.
Surviving are his
parents, of McLean; one son, Brett (and Marie) Bode of Omaha, Neb.;
one daughter, Angie Bode of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Beverly (and
E.J. Spaulding) of McLean; and two nephews.
He was preceded in
death by one sister.
Bode was a member of
St. Mary’s Church of Atlanta and the McLean County Antique Car Club.

Edna
Seward
Edna Marie Seward,
98, of Mason City died at 9:12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at
Mason City Area Nursing Home.
A graveside service
will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mason City Cemetery. The Rev.
Patrick Clough will officiate.
There will be no
visitation. Hurley Funeral Home of Mason City is in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Seward was a
homemaker.
She was born Aug. 13,
1904, in Kentucky to Lee and Mary Close. She married Ben Beams, and
he died in 1938. She later married Larry Seward, and he died in
August 1995.
She was also preceded
in death by three sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by
her son, Larry Beams of Mason City.
She was a member of
the Easton Baptist Church and the Mason City Legion Auxiliary.
