Nanke Klockenga

Nanke H. Klockenga, 85, of Lincoln died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at St. Clara's Manor.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lincoln Christian Church, with Tom Gerdts officiating. Visitation will be at the church during the hour before the service.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Holland and Barry of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Klockenga retired from Myers Industries in 1980.

He was born March 20, 1918, at Hartsburg to Nanke and Tena Conrady Klockenga. He married Helena Cook on Dec. 5, 1945, in Lincoln.

Surviving Mr. Klockenga are his wife, of Lincoln; one brother, George Klockenga of Lincoln; one sister, Martha Sloan of Hartsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to his church or to Hospice Care of Illinois.

Buford Funk

Buford S. Funk, 80, of Lincoln died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Dan Wissmann officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mr. Funk retired in 1979 from CILCO in Lincoln, where he worked in the gas department for 24 years. He also worked as a mechanic at Langellier's in Lincoln.

He served in the U.S. Army, 83rd Infantry, during World War II and received the Purple Heart.

He was born Nov. 16, 1922, in Lincoln to Daniel and Lula Huff Funk. He married Elvera M. Moldenhauer on Aug. 16, 1942, in Lincoln. She died May 14, 1999.

Surviving are one son, Gary S. (and Sharon) Funk of Sherman; two daughters, Linda (and Dwain) Franz of Lincoln and Rebecca (Don) Cecil of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Delyn Franz Duggins of Lincoln, Brian Duggins of Lincoln, Tyler Franz of Lincoln, Cale Cecil of Lincoln, Katelyn Cecil of Lincoln and Taylor Funk of Sherman; two brothers, Richard Funk of Lincoln and Larry (and Patty) Funk of Jacksonville; and one sister, Alice (and Don) Taylor of Bartonville; and a special friend, Nancy Kleinman of Lincoln.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and one son, Dick.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, where he served as elder, usher and Eucharistic minister and was a member of the church council, Crisis Ministry, 60 Plus and Lutheran Brotherhood. He was also a member of American Legion Post 506 of Emden.

Memorials may be made to his church, American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
