Dorothy LaDew

Dorothy LaDew, 74, of Waynesville died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at 6:30 p.m. at Crestview Healthcare Center, Clinton.

Mrs. LaDew was cremated.

Services will be on Wednesday at Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta. Visitation will be during the hour before the 1:30 p.m. service.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Waynesville.

Mrs. LaDew owned and operated the Waynesville Cafe for several years. She then worked for the DeWitt County Highway Department until she retired.

She was born Oct. 2, 1928, at Clinton to Wilhelm and Mamie Kirby Shipley. She married Andrew LaDew on May 26, 1951, in Atlanta. He died Dec. 29, 1995.

Survivors are two sons, Bill (and Kathy) LaDew of Wapella and Greg (and Teri) LaDew of Champaign; one granddaughter; two stepgranddaughters; two stepgrandsons; and one step-great-granddaughter.

She was a member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church and the Waynesville American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

She will be greatly missed by all.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesville United Methodist Church or the Waynesville Fire and Rescue Squad.

 


Henry S. Lolling

Henry S. Lolling, 88, of Hartsburg died Friday, April 11, 2003, at 7:53 p.m. at Vonderleith Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

His funeral was Monday morning at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hartsburg, with the Rev. David Russell officiating. Visitation preceded the service.

Burial is in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Mr. Lolling was a retired farmer and also retired as a realtor for Herb James in Springfield and Bock and Associates in Lincoln.

He was born Nov. 1, 1914 in Hartsburg to Simon and Katie Klokkenga Lolling.  He married Helen Dengler on Nov. 24, 1940 in Lincoln.  She preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2002.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Frost of Lincoln and Sara (and John) Wilham of Heyworth; two brothers, Rudy Lolling and George Lolling, both of Lincoln; one sister, Ethel Coffey of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Stephen Phillips of Lincoln, Denise Bartlemay of Strasburg, Ann Montcalm of Lincoln, Christopher Phillips of Bloomington, Michael Aper of Saybrook and Julie Aper of Fithian; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and one sister. 

He attended St. John's Lutheran Church of Hartsburg.

He was former precinct committeeman in Hartsburg National Farmer's Organization.

Memorials can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Hartsburg or Vonderleith Living Center.

Thomas Lowman

Thomas J. Lowman, 61, of Greenview died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at 10:10 a.m. at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in Mason City. Nash Shawgo will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Mr. Lowman was a truck driver.

He was born April 29, 1941, in Lincoln to Leland and Marie Cronin Lowman.

Surviving are two brothers, Charles Lowman of Mason City and Richard Lowman of Theodosia, Mo., and one sister, Rita Vaughan of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one niece and one cousin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

 


Dr. John Raffa

Dr. John Raffa, 78, of Lincoln died Friday, April 11, 2003, at 1:27 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.

John Raffa, D.C., owned and operated Raffa Chiropractic Clinic in Lincoln since 1954.

He was a U.S. Army paratrooper during World War II.

He was born June 5, 1924, in Ashland, W.Va., to Michael and Louise Ambrosini Raffa. He married Mildred "Micky" Alley in October 1953 in Moline.

Surviving Dr. Raffa are his wife, of Lincoln; four sons, Mark (and Donna) Raffa of Springfield, John K. Raffa of Northbrook, Doug Raffa of Springfield and Danny (and Tina) Raffa of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Katie, Hailey, Lexy, Jason, Natalie, Danyel and Daphne; and one sister, Peggy "JoAnn" Deane of Post Huemene, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Guy; and one sister, Mary.

He was of the Christian faith.

He was a 34-year member of American Legion Post 263 and a member of AMVETS.

He played violin at the Lincoln Depot and in the Lincoln area for many years and was a member of String-A-Longs and the Lincoln Area Music Society.

He was also an animal lover.

Memorials may be made to the building fund for American Legion Post 263.
