Howard resigns as Lincoln
College soccer coach

[APRIL 15, 2003]  Mark Howard, men's head soccer coach at Lincoln College, has announced his resignation. A member of the LC faculty and leader of the men's soccer program since 1990, Howard is moving on to lead the soccer program at his alma mater, Olivet Nazarene University in Bradley. In addition to coaching, Howard will teach math at Olivet Nazarene.

About his resignation, Mark Howard said: "I have enjoyed living and working here in Lincoln. My wife, Debra, and I will miss the town and many people dearly. All of our kids were born here, so it will not be an easy place to leave."

Howard has coached the Lynx for 13 successful seasons. In 1995, he was named NJCAA Region 24 Coach of the Year. Between 1996 and 2001, he led the Lynx to six straight seasons of being nationally ranked; in 1997, they finished 14th. During his tenure, he has sent 13 players to NCAA Division I programs and a plethora of others to Divisions II and III, as well as the NAIA. As a coach, Howard leaves Lincoln College with a total of 123 wins, 107 losses and eight ties.

Allen Pickering, athletic director and vice president for college relations at LC, said coach Howard will surely be missed. "It's going to be very hard to replace him. The high quality with which Mark has led the men's soccer program and his excellence as a teacher will always be appreciated."

A native of Rockford, Howard currently lives in Lincoln with wife, Debra, and their three children: Wes, 6, Jenna, 5, and Kendall, 2.

Howard's successor has yet to be determined.
