Elsie
Carter
Elsie Carter, 84, of Mount Pulaski, died Monday,
April 28, 2003, at 5:15 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in
Springfield.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, and her
funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Carol Andricks and
Bill Shanle will officiate at the service.
Burial will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, Mount
Pulaski.
Mrs. Carter was a high school commerce teacher.
She was born June 1, 1918, at Deer Creek to
Leonard and Salome Dillard Gossmeyer. She married Wesley Carter in
Goodfield on June 27, 1948.
Surviving are her husband, of Mount Pulaski; one
son, John (and Lin) Carter of Decatur; two granddaughters, Tina (and
Casey) Arvin of Clearwater, Fla., and Gina (and Ryan) Bazemore of
Clearwater, Fla.; two grandsons, David Ricketts of Decatur and Derek
Ricketts of Sarasota, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Ally Arvin
of Clearwater, Fla., and Mason Ricketts of Maroa.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church
of Mount Pulaski and the Mount Pulaski Women's Club.
Memorials
may be made to Vonderlieth Living Center, First United Methodist
Church of Mount Pulaski and the American Heart Association.

Gloria Appel Fry
Gloria Fry, who grew
up in Lincoln, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at 11:25 p.m. Her father
was L.H. Appel.
Visitation will be
Wednesday at Pyke-Calloway Funeral Home, 1217 E. Spring St., New
Albany, Ind., from 4 to 8 p.m. Eastern time.
On Thursday there will be open visitation
from noon (Eastern time) until the 2 p.m. funeral service at
Northside Christian Academy, 2801 Grant Line Road, New Albany, Ind.

Robert Zimmerman
Robert Lee Zimmerman, 75, of San Jose died Sunday, April 27, 2003,
at 11:17 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at San Jose United
Methodist Church. A Masonic service will follow at 7:30 p.m. His
funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev.
Adam Corzine officiating.
Burial, with graveside military rites, will be in Mason City
Cemetery. Hurley
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Zimmerman retired after 32 years as a music teacher. He was also
mayor in San Jose for 32 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Mason City to Florin "Bud" and Nettie
Atherton Zimmerman. He married Joy Surgeon on Aug. 14, 1954. She
survives. Other
survivors are one son, Robert William "Bill" (and Holly) Zimmerman
of Germantown Hills, one daughter, Jill Zimmerman of Tyler, Texas;
five grandchildren, Derrick, Mary Piper, Zak, Lydia and Samuel; a
sister-in-law, Dixie Miller; a niece, Martha Knight; and a nephew,
Lindy Aderton. He was a
member of the San Jose United Methodist Church, where he directed
the bell choir and Good News Choir.
He started the first swing choir for schools in central Illinois and
conducted marching bands, jazz bands and stage bands. He was a
member of IMESA and served on its state board. He played in various
dance bands throughout central Illinois.
He was a member of the San Jose American Legion Post and the
Delavan-San Jose Masonic Lodge.
He was also a Republican precinct committeeman.
He graduated from Illinois State University in Bloomington and was a
member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity and the Blackfriars music
fraternity. Memorial contributions may be
made to the San Jose United Methodist Church. |
