Howe, 78, of Lincoln died Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at 8:55
a.m. at his home.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
There will be no visitation.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday at Diamond Grove Cemetery, Jacksonville, with the Rev.
James Cravens officiating.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home of
Lincoln is handling arrangements.
Mr. Howe was a driver's education
teacher and coach at Jacksonville High School. He owned and operated
Fogarty Grain in Lincoln.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War
II.
He was
born May 3, 1925, in Jacksonville to Trussler and Winifred Coultas
Howe. He married Eleanore L. "Dixie" Arnold on Feb. 2, 1949, in
Acapulco, Mexico.
Survivors are one son, Richard (and Kim) Howe of Mount Pulaski; one
daughter, Deborah S. (and Larry) Ploog of Charlotte, Iowa; four
grandchildren, Justin, Adam and Ashley Ploog of Charlotte, Iowa, and
Aimee Howe of Mount Pulaski; and one brother, Trussler Howe Jr. of
Jacksonville.
He was
preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal
Church in Lincoln and Lincoln Elks Lodge 914.
He played semi-pro football in Mexico
City.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be
given to Elks Crippled Children Fund or the dialysis center of
Lincoln.

Kandy Ann Frye, 37, of Lincoln
died Saturday (Nov. 29, 2003) at 5:39 p.m. at OSF St. Francis
Hospital in Peoria.
Cremation rites were accorded.
A memorial service will be at 2
p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln,
with Tom Gerdts officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Burial will be at a later date.
Ms. Frye was a homemaker.
She was born Dec. 16, 1965, in
Lincoln to Thomas Eldon and Helen Wade Frye.
Survivors are her mother, Helen
Merreighn of Lincoln; her stepfather, Francis Merreighn of Lincoln;
three children; two sisters, Mary (and Lester) Graber of Lincoln and
Helen Taft of Lincoln; and four brothers, Joseph Grimsley of
Lincoln, Charles L. Grimsley of Springfield, John S. (and Joyce)
Grimsley of Lincoln and Robert Frye of Mason City.
She was preceded in death by
her father and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She was a member of Lincoln
Christian Church.

Doris Jessie
Baker, 88, formerly of Lincoln died Nov.
23, 2003, at 9:20 a.m. at Tandem Health Care Center, Vero Beach,
Fla.
Her funeral will be
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 6) at St. John United Church of Christ
in Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating.
Visitation will be at
the church one hour before the service.
Burial will be in
Lucas Chapel Cemetery, Lincoln.
Arrangements are
being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
Mrs. Baker was a
homemaker.
She was born Dec. 19,
1914, in Nevada, Iowa, to Newton Franklin and Mabel Minor Pifer. She
married Merle Whitney Baker on March 7, 1936, in Ames, Iowa.
Survivors are one
daughter, Martha Mabel Baker (and Arland) Phelps of Vero Beach,
Fla.; two sons, David Merle (and Carol) Baker of Madison, Wis., and
Jonathan Read (and Cathy) Baker of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; 10
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bernice
Hazel John of State College, Pa.
She was preceded in
death by her husband and three sisters, Lois Pifer, Elda Stowe and
Shirley Kildow.
She was a member of
St. John United Church of Christ.

Frances M.
Trowbridge, 72, of Lincoln died
Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) at 10:55 a.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre.
Her funeral was
on Wednesday morning at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Wayne Armstrong officiating.
Visitation and an Eagle service were on Tuesday at the funeral
home.
Burial
is in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs. Trowbridge was postmistress at Beason for
32 years.
She
was born March 5, 1931, in Lincoln to Ike and Mabel Long Rohlfs. She
married Rex Trowbridge in Lincoln in 1948. He died in 1981.
Survivors are one son, Randy (and Marcy) Trowbridge of Middletown;
one grandson, Kelby Trowbridge of Middletown; one granddaughter,
Nicole Trowbridge of Middletown; one great-grandson, Kelby
Trowbridge Jr. of Middletown; and one sister, Dorothy “Dottie”
Sprague of Lincoln.
She
was also preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
She
was a member of Lincoln Christian Church and the Eagles Auxiliary,
in which she held various offices.
Memorials may be made to an education fund for
her grandchildren. The fund is established at State Bank of Lincoln.

E. Earl Smith,
83, of Hemet, Calif., formerly of Decatur, died Nov. 27, 2003, at
8:15 p.m. at his home. In California he had also lived at Pasadena,
Whittier and LaMirada.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.
Friday (Dec. 5) at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount
Pulaski.
A graveside service and military rites
will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pulaski Cemetery. The Rev. Frank
Pieper will officiate.
Mr. Smith was general sales manager at
A.W. Cash Co. in Decatur before he retired.
During World War II he served in the
U.S. Army with "B" Company of the 9th Armored Engineers .
He was born March 25, 1920, in Decatur
to Roy and Faye Moore Smith. He married Margaret Pease Moore in
1966. She survives.
Other survivors are one son, David (and
Sue) Smith of Olathe, Kan., and Louisville, Ky.; two daughters,
Diane Musselman of Palm Springs, Calif., and Sharon (and David)
Dahler of Denton, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Tippitt of Pasadena, Calif.;
and two nephews.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran
Church in Hemet, Calif., and the Hemet Elks Lodge 1740.
In Decatur he was instrumental in
forming Faries Parkway Nazarene Church, aka Parkway Church of the
Nazarene.
Memorials
may be made to the American Cancer Society.
