About The Game: Today’s game is the first league road game
of the season for the Redbirds. The ‘Birds are still looking for
their first road victory this season. Southern Illinois has been
dominant at home posting a 2-0 mark on the season and winning its
last 30 games at SIU Arena, the nation’s second longest home winning
streak.
Series History: This is the 122nd meeting in the series
between the two schools. SIU leads the series 63-58 and has won the
last three meetings and four of the last five. In Carbondale, the
Salukis own a 38-16 edge, but only a 16-12 advantage since ISU
joined the Valley in 1982.
Last Time They Met: Illinois State, the No. 9 seed, took the floor
at the Savvis Center for the second time in 16 hours and gave No. 1
Southern Illinois all it could handle in the quarterfinals of the
2003 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Sophomore
Vince Greene led the Illinois State charge with 21 points, but a
four minute scoring drought in the second half erased the upset
hopes as the ‘Birds fell 75-63 to the regular-season conference
champions.
On the Radio Dial: Dick Luedke, play-by-play; Mike Matthews,
color; Bruce Evans, sideline (home only) and Tim Fisher, studio
