Rosemary Young

Rosemary Young, 52, of Atlanta died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at her home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Eminence Christian Church, rural Atlanta.

Mrs. Young worked 19 years for the state of Illinois, the last 17 years as executive secretary at Lincoln Correctional Center. She had also worked for Country Companies in Bloomington and was co-owner of H.G.&N. Fertilizer/TipTop Farms.

She was born Sept. 30, 1950, to Martine and Florence Tholen Seefeldt. She married Tommy J. Young on July 10, 1971. He survives.

Other survivors are one daughter, Tara Katherine (and Jay) Miller of Carthage; one son, Yale Eric Young of Ancona; and two grandchildren, Ashley Nicole and Lane Thomas Miller of Carthage.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a member of the Illinois Hereford Auxiliary, taught Sunday school for many years, played in the Atlanta Community Band and played the piano at her church and at local nursing homes. She was honored by the Lincoln Correctional Center in 1998 for her volunteer services.

She was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society, walked in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and was named honorary chairman for the Logan County Relay for Life.

She graduated from New Holland-Middletown High School and Midstate Business College in 1969.

She was a friend to everyone, loved her family (grandchildren were her joy) and loved life!

Memorials may be made to the family or to Eminence Christian Church.


Cash Tapper

Cash Tapper, 14, of Lincoln died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 4:22 p.m. in the emergency room at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

A celebration of Cash's life will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lincoln Elks Club ballroom. All of Cash's friends, Mat's friends, and friends of Alan and Marilyn are invited.

Cash was an eighth-grade student at Chester-East Lincoln School.

He was born Aug. 2, 1988, in Galesburg to Alan and Marilyn Shipp Tapper.

Survivors are his parents, of Lincoln; one brother, Matthew Tapper of Lincoln; his maternal grandfather, John J. Shipp of Monroe City, Mo.; and his paternal grandfather, Raymond E. Tapper of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary E. Shipp, and his paternal grandmother, Shirley M. Gladfelter/Tapper.

Cash played hockey for the Springfield Kings. He also participated in Lincoln's soccer, basketball, football and baseball programs, including Lincoln Heat baseball. He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 101 and Quail and Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid skateboarder and loved most outdoor activities – golf, fishing, riding dirt bikes, swimming, climbing and exploring.

Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Rec Center. The family has requested no flowers or plants.

Donald Greenslate

Donald G. Greenslate, 83, of Lincoln died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at 7:16 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, with visitation starting at 12:30 p.m.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Mr. Greenslate was the chief of security at Lincoln Developmental Center before he retired.

He was born May 8, 1919, in Kenney to Owen and Imogene Altman Greenslate. He married Maxine L. Smith on Dec. 24, 1943, in Waynesville, Mo.

He is survived by three sons, Jeffrey (and Cathy) Greenslate of Coquille, Ore., David Greenslate of Lincoln, Roger (and Betty) Greenslate of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Mildred Garr of Coal Springs, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and five sisters.

He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Lincoln.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Memorials may be made to the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.

Faye Klemm

Faye Perry Klemm, 99, formerly of Lincoln, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at 10:45 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Mrs. Klemm donated her body to medical science. There will be no visitation or services.

A private burial will be scheduled later.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Klemm was a homemaker.

She was born April 11, 1903, in Lincoln to Isaac T. and Katherine Schmidt Perry. She married Myrlin W. Klemm on Jan. 31, 1922, and he died Jan. 31, 1975.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Merton Klemm; two half brothers and a half sister.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Klemm of Madison, Wis.; two grandsons, Martin Klemm of San Diego, Calif., and Kurt Klemm of Rhinelander, Wis.; two granddaughters, Barbara Klemm of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Marcia Macheel of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; two stepgrandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, Charity Guild, Pairs and Spares, and the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Jane Huston

Jane C. Huston, 80, of Lincoln died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at 10:32 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

Visitation was Monday evening at Kerrigan-Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. A rosary service preceded the visitation.

Her funeral was Tuesday morning at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln, with Father Thomas Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Huston taught for five years at Atlanta High School and at Lincoln High for 15 years. She was a substitute teacher at Hartsburg-Emden, New Holland-Middletown, Carroll Catholic School and Northwest School. After retiring, she was a remedial reading teacher in her home.

She was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Lincoln to Jacob and Mabel Reichle Leininger. She married Richard E. Huston on June 16, 1956, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lincoln. He survives.

Other survivors are one sister, Mary Rose Kramp of Lincoln Lakes, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Holy Family Society, Logan-DeWitt Retired Teachers Association, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Blue Army of Phantom, Priest for Life and Prolife Action.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941 as salutatorian of her class. She graduated from Lincoln College with honors in 1943 and graduated magna cum laude from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1945.

Memorials may be made to Carroll Catholic School or the Alzheimer's Foundation.

LaVene Montgomery

LaVene Montgomery, 92, of Lincoln died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at 11 p.m. at the Christian Village.

She was cremated, and there will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mrs. Montgomery was a teacher in Illinois schools before she retired in 1959.

She was born Feb. 11, 1910, near Atlanta in Logan County to Clarence and Rose Conover Leach. She married Avery Lee Montgomery on July 10, 1944, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He died June 15, 1966.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, Lincoln Woman's Club, Eastern Star, Christian Village Auxiliary and a life member of the National Education Association.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Village.
