Louise Meyer

Louise L. Meyer, 93, of Bloomington, formerly of Galesburg and Emden, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at 7:40 p.m. at BroMenn Hospital in Normal.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Emden and one hour before the 11 a.m. service there on Thursday.

Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Holland and Barry Funeral Home of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Oct. 26, 1909, in rural Logan County to John and Anna Reinholz Struebing. She married Raymond Miller on Dec. 27, 1929, in Emden. He died in 1974. She married Harold Meyer on May 27, 1978. He died Jan. 2, 1982.

Surviving are her son, Cecil (and Wanda) Miller of Bloomington; two grandsons, Doug (and Koby) Miller of Normal and Darrin (and Lisa) Miller of Algonquin; one granddaughter, Kathy Lilley of Bourbonnais; and five great-grandchildren, Brent, Alley and Jack Miller of Normal and Nikki and Hanna Miller of Algonquin.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Emden. She also attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg while living there.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.


Robert Wheeler

Robert S. Wheeler, 78, of Atlanta died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at 3:26 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

Mr. Wheeler will be cremated, and there will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta.

Mr. Wheeler was a mechanic for the Schmidt Implement Company in Atlanta for several years before his retirement.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Jan. 3, 1925, at Farmer City to Donald and Christa Hughes Wheeler. He married Alberta Bailey on July 20, 1947, at Farmer City. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Robert Lynn Wheeler (and Dee) of Mount Pulaski, Alice (and Mac) McCarthy of Lincoln, Janice (and Jim) Adye of Emden, Betty (and Jack) Renfrow of Atlanta and Mitch Wheeler of Bloomington; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Junior Wheeler and John Wheeler, both of Middletown, Ohio, and Lester Wheeler of Jamestown, Ohio; four sisters, Mabel Ester of Mansfield, Marjorie Monaghan of Farmer City, Gerie Whitt of Franklin, Ohio, and Sandy Wheeler of Mansfield, Ohio.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to the Atlanta Rescue Squad.

 

Gerald Sparks

Gerald Sparks, 55, of New Holland, formerly of Middletown, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at 10 a.m. at his home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Holland and Barry in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holland and Barry, with Don Hoover officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Middletown.

Mr. Sparks was a retired truck driver.

He served in the U.S. Army from October 1967 to October 1969.

He was born July 18, 1947, in Lincoln to Thomas A. "Pete" and Dorothy M. Dugan Sparks. He married Patricia Ramsey in Lincoln, and she survives.

Also surviving are three children, Teresa Schriber (and husband Scott) of Lincoln, Chad Sparks of Lincoln and Christina Sparks (and companion Ray Albertson) of New Holland; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Tom (and RuthAnne) Sparks of Lincoln, Bill Sparks of Hartsburg, Gary Sparks of Dumfries, Va., and Bob Sparks of Mount Pulaski; and four sisters, Rita (and Howie) Coffey of Petersburg, Donna (and Gator) Hutchison of Middletown, Nancy (and Gus) Otto of Lincoln and Trish Tibbs Minder of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made for Middletown fireworks.


Phyllis Young

Phyllis D. Young, 73, of Atlanta died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at 11:41 a.m. at Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Eminence Christian Church, rural Atlanta, with Andy Glass officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in Mountjoy Cemetery, rural Atlanta.

Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Young was a licensed practical nurse. After 20 years of employment at Lincoln Developmental Center, she retired in 1995.

She was born Dec. 22, 1929, at Canton to M. Dean and Elizabeth Anne Shaw Frantz. She married Marion Young on June 21, 1947, at Atlanta. He died Aug. 28, 1997.

Surviving are three sons, Bob (and Carol) Young of Bourbonnais, Bruce (and Kerry) Young of Normal and Bill (and Bonnie) Young of Lincoln; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Sue (and Hebert) Pettigrew of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; one brother, Roger Frantz of McLean; and two sisters, Ruth Werschey of Decatur and Betty Cox of Lincoln.

She was a member of the Atlanta "A" Team, J.H. Hawes Grain Elevator Museum and the Atlanta Eminence Christian Church.
