Meyrick achieves Eagle Scout rank     Send a link to a friend

[JULY 11, 2003]  Aaron Meyrick, a freshman at Lincoln Community High School, was recognized recently at an Eagle Scout court of honor for obtaining Scouting's highest honor, Eagle Scout. Aaron is the son of Elizabeth and Jim Meyrick of Lincoln; grandson of Nancy and Dave Goldhammer of Petersburg, formerly of Lincoln; and great-grandson of Rosetta Janet of Lincoln.

Aaron is a member of Boy Scout Troop 102, chartered through the First United Methodist Church. He joined Cub Scouts in September 1994 and earned Cub Scouting's highest award, the Arrow of Light, in February 1999. As a Boy Scout he has camped in Wisconsin, Canada and various places in Illinois. This summer he will be going to the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico for an eight-day horseback trip through the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains.

Some other activities he has enjoyed are rifle shooting, archery, tubing down rivers, tower climbing and rappelling, canoeing, water skiing, black powder shooting, and many more.

To reach Eagle rank, Aaron had to earn 21 merit badges and complete a community service project. His project was to gather school supplies and book bags and have them distributed to students in the free or reduced lunch program. He managed to put together enough for 153 students, and with some money he had left over he supplied 22 school kits to his church, Faith Lutheran.

Aaron is a varsity letter winner on his high school's swim team, played freshman and sophomore baseball, and is a member of the math and Spanish clubs. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, a member of the ceremonies team and chairs the lodge patch design committee.
