Frances Lessen
Frances "Fran" M. Lessen, 68, of
Hartsburg died Sunday (June 22, 2003) at 2:45 a.m. at her home.
Visitation was on Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Her funeral was Wednesday morning at Hartsburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Rettig officiating.
Burial is in Hartsburg Union
Cemetery.
Mrs. Lessen was a homemaker for her
family.
She was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Athens
to Herman F. and Carrie A. Naylor Geriets. She married William L.
Lessen on Aug. 29, 1954, in New Holland.
Survivors are her husband, of
Hartsburg; one son Dale (and Sarah) Lessen of Lincoln; three
daughters, Linda (and Gary) Maxey of Elkin, N.C., Colleen (and Jim)
Anning of Williamsville and Susan (and Jim) Gehlbach of Lincoln; one
grandson, Tyler Gehlbach of Lincoln; five granddaughters, Kara
Gehlbach of Lincoln, Mallory Anning of Williamsville, Alexa Maxey of
Elkin, N.C., and Shelby and Ashley Lessen of Lincoln; one brother,
Herman Geriets of Lincoln; and three sisters, Dorothy Engle of
Springfield, Ruth Pruett of Glendale, Ariz., and Donna J. Miles of
Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her
parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Geriets.
She was a member of Hartsburg United
Methodist Church, a lay minister for the church, superintendent and
teacher for the children's Sunday school, and secretary of United
Methodist Women.
She was active in the Relay For Life
cancer drive and participated in cancer walks for five years with
her family team, "Angels All Around."
She graduated from Middletown High
School as valedictorian in 1952.
She loved spending time with her
family, and her grandchildren were a very important part of her
life. She enjoyed her cats, sewing, flower gardening, porcelain
dolls and collecting angels.

Irwin Miller
Irwin Lee Miller, 62, of Lincoln died
Saturday (June 21, 2003) at 7 p.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center
in Peoria.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m.
Saturday (June 28) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev.
Daniel Wissman officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the
service.
Arrangements are being handled by
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Mr. Miller retired from General
Telephone in Lincoln, where he worked as a switchman. He was owner
and operator of Country Archery.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was born July 26, 1940, in Lincoln
to Irwin A. and Helen Loercher Miller. He married Katherine Taylor
on June 25, 1966, in Springfield. She survives.
Other survivors are his mother, of
Lincoln; two sons, Irwin Todd Miller (and Katherine Bonan) of St.
Louis, Mo., and Nathan Miller (and Melissa) of New Holland; one
granddaughter, Natalie Katherine Miller of New Holland; a sister,
Joyce Winch of Rock Falls; four nephews, Paul Stanley Cobane of
Princeton, Scott Irwin Cobane of Las Vegas, Nev., Mathew DeRosier of
Montana and Tom DeRosier of Orlando, Fla.; a sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Mary Jean and John DeRosier of St. Paul, Minn.; and
his mother-in-law, Dorothy Ade of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
Church of Lincoln and Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
He was one of the founders of Deer
Creek Archers, established in 1968, and served on the board of the
Illinois Archery Association. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed
hunting, bicycling, archery and golf.
He graduated from Broadwell Grade
School and Middletown High School and attended Southern Illinois
University in Carbondale.

tree memorial program.

Davison
Bob Davison, 71,
died recently (June 12, 2003, at 12:06 p.m.) at his home in Bascom,
Fla. Committal of ashes
was at a Wednesday morning service at Irish Grove Cemetery, Middletown.
Roger James and Ken Davison will officiate. Military and Masonic
rites will be conducted at the graveside.
Holland and Barry
Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling local arrangements.
Mr. Davison retired
from Caterpillar in Peoria after 34 years and was a truck driver for
14 years.
He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II.
He was born Oct. 6,
1929, in Oakley to Walter Grant and Nettie Banister Davison. He
married Clara Rickard on June 2, 1950, in Petersburg.
Survivors are his
wife, of Bascom, Fla.; one son, Phillippe I. Davison of Altha, Fla.;
one daughter, Angelique Stevenson of Mason City; eight
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Walter
Davison of Green Valley, Kenneth Davison of Middletown and Edwin A.
Davison of Lincoln; and one sister, Lois J. Boyer of Lincoln.
He was of the
Methodist faith.
He was a member of American Legion Post
672, Masonic Lodge 653 of Greenview, the VFW post of Creve Coeur and
the Moose Lodge of Marianna, Fla.

Carl Rankin
Carl L. Rankin, 64, of Lincoln died
Sunday (June 22, 2003) at 4:35 a.m. at St. John's Hospice in
Springfield.
Visitation was on Tuesday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.
His funeral was Wednesday morning at Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, with Dr.
Carroll Richards officiating.
Burial is in Zion Cemetery,
Lincoln.
Mr. Rankin worked in the Lincoln
College maintenance department. He had retired from Caterpillar in
Decatur in 1995.
He was born Oct. 25, 1938, at Emden to
Raymond L. and Helen Wubben Hulse Rankin. He married Margaret A.
Gleason on Dec. 20, 1956, in Emden. She survives.
Other survivors are one daughter,
Victoria S. (and Lloyd A.) Justice of Waterford, Mich.; two sons,
Brian (and Malisa) Rankin of Lincoln and Eric A. (and Debbie) Rankin
of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two grandsons, Christopher and Michael of
Waterford, Mich.; one granddaughter, Macie of Lincoln; one brother,
Wayne Ted (and Bobbie) Rankin of Leon, Kan.; and a half sister, Sara
Jane (and Devon) Hoerr of Pekin.
He was a member of First Cumberland
Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, served on the church session for 20
years, was active in the men's group and was Sunday school
superintendent at the time of his death.

Alma Van Ness
Alma B. Van Ness, 93,
of McLean died Sunday (June 22, 2003) at 2:30 a.m. at OSF St. Joseph
Medical Center in Bloomington.
Her funeral was Wednesday
morning at Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, with the Rev. Al
Simonson officiating. Visitation preceded the
service.
Burial is in
Funks Grove Cemetery, rural McLean.
Mrs. Van Ness was a
beautician for 60 years in Atlanta and McLean. She retired in 1990.
She was born Jan. 20,
1910, at Lawndale to Henry and Elizabeth Naugle Griffin. She married
Archie L. Van Ness in 1936. He died May 22, 1987.
Surviving are several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by four sisters and three brothers.
She was a member of
the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Senior
Citizen's Group, all in McLean. She was also a member of the Rebekah
Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star.

Daniel Ellis
Daniel Ellis, 50, of
Lincoln died Saturday (June 21, 2003) at 5:20 p.m. at his home.
Cremation rites were
accorded. There will be no services.
Mr. Ellis was a cook
at the Lincoln Depot Restaurant.
He was born Jan. 23,
1953, in Lincoln.
His survivors are one
son, William Eric Spotswood Ellis of Great Lakes Naval Training
Center in Chicago; a daughter in Indiana; and his mother, Kathryn
Kolo Ellison of Lincoln.
He was preceded in
death by his father, William S. Ellis.
He was a graduate of Lincoln Community
High School.
John Edwards
John Edwards, 42, of Lincoln died
Thursday (June 19, 2003) at 7:15 a.m. at his home.
A memorial service will be scheduled.
