Alma Cross
Alma J. Cross, 101, of Emden died
Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at 12:15 p.m. at the Christian Village in
Lincoln.
Her funeral was
Monday morning at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, with the Rev. David L.
Hofer and the Rev. Frank Peiper officiating. Visitation was at
the church on Sunday afternoon and an hour before the service
on Monday.
Burial is in Hartsburg Union
Cemetery.
Mrs. Cross was a homemaker.
She was born Jan. 22, 1902, in Emden to
Edward and Anna Bruns Conklen. She married William C. Cross in Emden
on Sept. 3, 1924, and he died Oct. 3, 1975.
Surviving are one daughter, Betty Ann
(and Leonard) Krusemark of Emden; two sons, William W. (and Frances)
Cross of Emden and Gene L. (and Wanda) Cross of Emden; 11
grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, George (and
Donna) Conklen of Sherman; and one sister-in-law, Margot Cross of
Lincoln.
She was also preceded in death by four
brothers, one sister, one daughter and two grandsons.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran
Church, the Ladies Aid of the church and the Good Samaritans
Society.

Albert Hill
Albert W. Hill, 84,
of Mason City died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at 1:10 a.m. at Mason
District Hospital in Havana.
Visitation was Sunday
at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City.
His funeral was
Monday morning at First Christian Church of Mason City, with the
Rev. Dustin Fulton officiating.
Graveside military
rites were conducted in Mason City Cemetery.
Mr. Hill was a farmer
and sold Burris seed corn.
He served in the U.S.
Army during World War II and achieved the rank of corporal. He was a
member of the 3577th Quartermaster Truck Co. and fought in Patton's
3rd Army during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was born Feb. 21,
1919, in Mason City to Fred and Anna Pepmeyer Hill. He married Verla
Wolf on Jan. 26, 1951, in Mason City. She survives.
Also surviving are
one son, Albert Larry (and Pam) Hill of Mason City, and three
grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by one sister.
He was a member of
the First Christian Church of Mason City. He was on the church board
for over 40 years, served as chairman of the deacons and was given
deacon emeritus status.
He was also a member
of American Legion Post 496 of Mason City, the Mason County Farm
Bureau and the American Shorthorn Association of Omaha, Neb.
