Carolyn Bevard

Carolyn D. Bevard, 70, of Lincoln died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 8:40 a.m. at her home.

Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tom Gerdts officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the service time.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Bevard had worked as a manager at Ben Franklin, as a secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, as a bookkeeper for Schmidt Implement and as a receptionist at H&R Block.

She was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Harold and Rachel Suiter Merrill. She married Thomas E. Bevard in Lincoln on July 14, 1951. He survives.

Other survivors are her father, of Lincoln; three daughters, Jan (and Jerry) Pickett of Mount Pulaski, Jill (and Melvin) Buchholz of Lincoln and Joy (and Mark) Coyne of Perth, Canada; eight grandchildren, Natalie (and Jim) Allen, Betsy Clark, Clint Clark, Rachel Buchholz, Samuel Coyne, Thomas Coyne, Maggie Coyne and Aaron Pickett; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles "Chuck" (and Karen) Merrill of Springfield; and two sisters, Barbara (and Tom) Hertzfeldt of Mackinaw and Joyce (and Ken) Letterle of Lafayette, La.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church, a Girl Scout leader and held several offices in the ESA sorority.

Jimmy Shull

Jimmy Lee Shull, 39, of St. Louis, Mo., died Friday, March 14, 2003, at 5:03 p.m. at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

There is no visitation.

A memorial service will be Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Larry Maffett officiating.

Mr. Shull was a Lincoln native and served in the National Guard.

He was born Dec. 3, 1963, to James and Sharon Haberland Shull.

Surviving are his father, in Minnesota; his mother and his stepfather, Butch Gordon, of Lincoln; one brother, Ricky Shull of Lincoln; one sister, Lori Shull Cook of Atlanta; and a great-grandmother, Tillie Davison of Middletown.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Harold and Ruby Haberland and Clarence and Ruth Shull.

Margaret 'Peg' Worth

Margaret "Peg" Worth died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 3:30 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. March 29 at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Henry Cox officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service.

Burial of cremains will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.

Mrs. Worth was employed by the Illinois secretary of state for 34 years before she retired in 1973. She lived in Springfield for many years before her marriage, when she moved to New Holland.

She was born May 27, 1913, in Edinburg to Richard and Marie Driskell Lowe. She married Glen Worth on Oct. 6, 1955, in Springfield.

Surviving are one stepson, Thomas (and Jan) Worth of Lake in the Hills; a stepgranddaughter, Lori (and Butch) Brown of Clarksville, Tenn.; two step-great-grandsons; one sister, Nellie Rescho of Springfield; two nieces, Linda (and Harold) Whitworth of Nashville and Patti Fricke of Springfield; and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Brem Worth, and a sister, Darliene Youngberg.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middletown and the women’s organization of the church. She was also a member of the New Holland Women’s Club, The Oasis senior citizens of Lincoln, the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the hospital for many years,

She was a graduate of Springfield High School and Illinois Business College.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Middletown.


Walther Ebel

Walther L. Ebel, 79, of Lincoln died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 7:05 p.m. at the Christian Village.

Visitation was Sunday afternoon at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral was Monday morning at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Carnahan and the Rev. Thomas Radtke officiating.

Burial was with military rites in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mr. Ebel was a retired real estate broker and landowner.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946.

He was born May 18, 1923, in Lincoln to Rudolph and Nita Doehring Ebel. He married Delores Cattau on Nov. 30, 1947, in Columbus, Neb.

Surviving are his wife, of Lincoln; two daughters, Sandra Ebel of Naperville and Lizabeth (and Jay) Anderson of Naperville; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Ruth Lawler.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Dana Ebel.

He was a real estate broker with Julie Davis and Associates and was district sales manager for DeKalb Ag Research.

He was a member and former elder at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, a member of Kiwanis, a University of Illinois Master Gardener, president of the Central Illinois Rose Society and a member of the 7th Illinois Calvary.

He was an agriculture graduate of the University of Florence, Italy.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at Zion Lutheran Church or to Master Gardeners.

Agnes Lohrenz

Agnes M. "Grandma" Lohrenz, 84, of Lincoln died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 6:30 a.m. at her home.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. The rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Lohrenz had worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney in Texas, California and Lincoln.

She was born May 16, 1918, in Lincoln to Frank and Pearl Kible Pokorski. She married William Lohrenz on Oct. 27, 1941, in Lincoln. He survives.

Other survivors are two daughters, Sandy (and Lynn) Aper of Lincoln and Karen Humbert of Lincoln; four grandsons, Scott Aper of Springfield, Greg Aper of Chicago, Michael Aper of Champaign and Brad Humbert of Lincoln; three granddaughters, Lorie Aper of Glen Carbon, Allison Humbert of Bloomington and Nicole Humbert of Lincoln; one brother, Richard Pokorski of Lincoln; and two sisters, Virginia Rohlfs of Hartsburg and Mary Miller of Springfield.

She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph, and two brothers, Frank "Bud" and Joe Pokorski.

She was a member of Holy Family Church.

Memorials may be made to Carroll Catholic School or Hospice Care of Illinois.

Charles Martinie

Charles F. Martinie, 87, of Lincoln died Friday, March 14, 2003, at 12:30 p.m. at his home.

Visitation was Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mr. Martinie farmed in the Beason area until he retired and moved to Lincoln. After retiring from farming, he worked as a spot welder and in janitorial service at Eaton Corporation.

He was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Lincoln to William and Albertha Musick Martinie. He married Madeline Reynolds on May 26, 1938, in Lincoln. She died Aug. 18, 1999.

Surviving are two sons, William (and Linda) Martinie of Lincoln and Ronald (and Kathy) Martinie of Lincoln; two daughters, Carol Robb of Lincoln and Marilyn (and Fred) Bell of Cantrall; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Martinie of Springfield; and one sister, Alta Gupton of Springfield.

He was also preceded in death by an infant son, four brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of Beason United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to his church or to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Joyce Marshall

Joyce Marshall, 77, of Latham died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at 2:15 p.m. at her home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader.

Burial will be in Illini Township Cemetery, Warrensburg.

Mrs. Marshall was a homemaker.

She was born June 6, 1925, at Goodlett, Texas, to Henry and Wilma Arnett Scott. She married Wilbur "Pinky" Marshall Jr. in Goodlett, Texas, on Oct. 12, 1951.

Surviving are her husband, of Latham; one daughter, Wilma (and Richard) Stanley of Latham; a daughter-in-law, Pam (and Leo) Schmidt of Latham; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Nina Ham of Hickman, Calif., Frances Poole of Goodlett, Texas, and Beulah Malone of Holly, Colo.

She was preceded in death by one son, Larry, who died in 1989, and two grandchildren.

She was a member of Latham Baptist Church.

Albert Langenbahn

Albert E. Langenbahn, 90, of Mason City died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 5:45 p.m. at Mason City Area Nursing Home.

His funeral was Monday morning at St. Columba Catholic Church in Mason City, with Father Patrick DeMeulemeester officiating. Visitation preceded the service.

Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mr. Langenbahn retired from Caterpillar in East Peoria after 30 years. He also was an inventor and received several patents over the years.

He was born Jan. 26, 1913, in New Holland to Peter and Mary Bender Langenbahn. He married Luella Lohrenz on Feb. 10, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Dale (and Carol) Langenbahn of Springfield and Harold (and Linda) Langenbahn of Springfield; one daughter, Ruby (and Bruce) Wagner of San Jose; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild.

He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Mason City, where he was a trustee for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lincoln.
