William Brown
Russell William Brown, 84, of Lincoln died Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) at
7:40 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor.
His
funeral was Monday morning at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln, with Tom Gerdts officiating. Visitation preceded the service.
A
graveside service with military rites will be at 1 p.m. Monday at
Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
Mr.
Brown was an accountant at Illico Independent Oil Co. before he
retired in 1984.
He
was a first sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, during
World War II.
He
was born May 12, 1919, in Spencer County, Ind., to George L. and
Lecky C. Halsey Brown. He married Martha Miles, and she preceded him
in death. His second wife, Louise K. Hostetter, also preceded him in
death. He married Mildred L. Woodard on Aug. 17, 2002, in Lincoln.
She survives.
Other survivors are one son, Robert E. (and Diane) Brown of
Rochester Hills, Mich.; one daughter, Beverly (and Christopher)
Wyman of Steger; two stepsons, Jim (and Brenda) Hostetter of Lincoln
and Tom (and Pat) Woodard of Lincoln; two stepdaughters, Susan (and
Bruce) Semlow of Herscher and Milinda (and Al) Wolf of Beason; 17
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
one brother, Dennis (and Kay) Brown of Peoria; and one sister, Helen
(and Earl) Van Etten of Lincoln.
He
was also preceded in death by two brothers, Guy C. and Paul E.
Brown; one sister, Pauline Brown; one grandson; and one
great-grandson.
He
was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.
