From Mike McCabe

[OCT. 17, 2003]  I am looking for descendants of some of my Irish ancestors who settled in the greater Springfield area in the mid-1850s. Many moved west to Kansas later in the century, but many of their descendants remained in Illinois.

The immigrant couples are:

  • John Keenan, born about 1820, and Ann Rush, born 1819, from Greenan's Cross, County Monaghan, Ireland.
All children were born in Ireland and came to America at different times.
John died in Springfield, but Ann and children migrated to Kansas.
  • Bernard McGinty, born 1823, and Martha MacElroy, born 1825, in Ireland, married 1855 in New York.
Children all born in Springfield area. Some migrated to Kansas.
Bernard's son Thomas married John Keenan's daughter Margaret, and they migrated to Kansas.

[to top of second column in this article]

  • James McCabe, born 1829 in County Cavan, Ireland, and Mary Finn (unknown).
She bore three children, then died early.
He married Mrs. Bridget Cery in 1868.
James, Mary and Bridget died in Logan County.
James and Mary's son Eugene migrated to Kansas, but at least two children did not leave.
James is my direct paternal grandfather.
  • Washington "Lash" Casey and wife, whose daughter Elizabeth Ann Casey married James McCabe's son Eugene.
I know very little about the Caseys.

I have considerable data on much downline and the families who moved west but little about ancestors of those listed above.

I would like to have contact from anyone interested in exchanging genealogy information on these families. I live in Tempe, Ariz.
