The Lincoln Police Department announces that with a grant
provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation the final
seat belt enforcement period was completed from Aug. 24 through
Sept. 6. During this enforcement period, 11 Lincoln police officers
worked 132 patrol hours dedicated to the enforcement of Illinois
seat belt laws and Illinois child restraint laws. During this
period, 141 vehicles were stopped, with eight speeding tickets, 42
other moving violations tickets, 128 seat belt tickets, child
restraint tickets, one warrant arrest and six suspended license
arrests.

From November 2002 through September 2003 there have been five
enforcement periods. There have been a total of 530 patrol hours.
During the patrol hours, 556 vehicles were stopped, with 86 speeding
tickets issued, 110 various moving violation tickets issued, 330
seat belt tickets issued, nine child restraint tickets issued, 14
suspended drivers arrested and four warrant arrests.
The Lincoln Police Department, along with the Illinois Department
of Transportation, thanks the motorists of Lincoln and Logan County
for their efforts in reducing the risk of injury during a motor
vehicle crash by wearing their seat belts and restraining their
children in child seats.
