[AUG. 24, 2005]  Lincoln Christian College's volleyball team will be relying very heavily on local talent for the coming 2005 season. Being counted on are Lincoln Community High School graduate Kari McFadden, junior, NCCAA second-team all-American; LCHS grad Mindy Crawford, junior, two-time NCAA Midwest Regional Libero of the Year; Mount Pulaski High School grad Sarah Nichols, junior, defensive specialist; Kristina Cook, junior, a setter-opposite transfer from Illinois Central College; and Illini Central grad Jeni McLaughlin, junior, outside hitter.

They will be needed to take up the slack from graduates: Christen O'Malley Owen, two-time National Player of the Year; Lauren Cox, three-time first-team NCCAA all-American setter, Bethany Harris, 2005 first-team NCCAA all-American; and Amanda Cole, 2003 second-team all-American.

McFadden, Crawford, McLaughlin and Nichols were all starters on the 2003 NCCAA national championship team and the 2004 NCCAA runner-ups.

Other returning players include juniors Stephanie Hodam, a setter, and Kate Geisler, outside hitter, along with sophomores Emma Hanford, a middle blocker, and Jessica Schroeder, libero.

Melissa Brisban, a graduate of New Wine High School in Lincoln, playing opposite, joins other newcomers to the squad: Jessica Bunting, Ellrey, outside hitter; Erin Humphrey, Heyworth, outside hitter; CayLee Langellier, Martinton, setter; Kendra Hunter, Danville, outside hitter; and Crystal Edgerton, Twain Harte, Calif., middle blocker.

The Angels are coached by Kevin Crawford with assistant coaches Jason Faar and Chad Nelson and graduate assistants Christen Owen and Christina Wright. Crawford is entering his 15th year of coaching with a record of 406-171.

The Angels will play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

When asked to comment on the coming season, Crawford stated, "We are looking forward to a very competitive year as this is the first year we will be playing every member of our new SLIAC Conference. We are not looking at this as a 'rebuilding' year, but as a 'reloading' year."
