The
first launch from the new site provided a never seen before
spectacle for the Lincoln festival. In addition to the beauty of
more balloons in sight at one time, the balloons stayed over and
near the grounds using circulating air patterns. Normally balloons
lift, catch a wind and float off in the prevailing wind direction
not to be seen. However, last night viewers saw most of the entire
flight and landings of nearly all the balloons, some came right back
within yards of where they launched, others landed in just the next
field over and a few flew further east, but still in sight.
The
balloons were able to launch once again this morning. After waiting
for morning fog to burn off they took to the air before 8 a.m. Some
took off from west of Lincoln and landed at the airport and some
took off from the airport.
Flights are schedule for this evening and tomorrow morning. You’ll
find a balloon glow, entertainment and lots of food with other
activities at the airport today.
Meanwhile, downtown the activities are just entering full swing
today. Artists have arranged their wares in Latham Park, the Kid’s
Zone is offers lots of added fun for kids, The Art of Wine will
offer the usual respite for relaxation and tasting of fine wines,
and Scully Park is offering antiques, collectibles and craft items.
Many
other activities are scheduled lasting through Sunday evening.
