My wife and I just returned from another of our many trips each day
to All Veterans Park. Our hearts are broken! We again surveyed all
the damage that has been done: the scratches on the beautiful
benches placed there for rest and meditation; the damaged bricks
placed in reverent memory of those gallant men and women who have
fought in the wars that have retained America for our families; and
trash strewn, including many cigarette butts thrown carelessly into
the area of the bricks.
This project was not started as an entertainment park for
skateboarders, skaters, scooters, power scooters, bicycles or any
other fun vehicle or object to run over the bricks, or as a trash
depository. The bricks are not a walkway.
The bricks represent a site where family and friends can reflect
and recollect loving memories of their veterans. Please do not
continue to disrespect the veterans who have done so much to keep
you and your family's freedom. These bricks represent not only your
immediate family, but also your ancestors as far back as the Civil
War and through the wars of today. Each brick is a story of that
veteran's sacrifice. It is a way for families and friends to say
thank you for everything and to proclaim that their sacrifices have
not gone unnoticed nor shall be forgotten.
