Commander Arnold Haak reported that the post membership is 100
renewed, with one military life, 46 regular life, five annual
renewals and two new members, for a total of 54.
Under Americanism, the report was on members attending the
veterans recognition, buffet and dance sponsored by the youth
fellowship of St. John Church. Many good comments were made
concerning the youth and their enthusiasm for their project.
Haak reported that he had attended the planning meetings for the
100th birthday celebration of the Logan County Courthouse. He also
notified all the Logan County veterans groups and individuals for
their participation. Five AMVETS members participated in the parade
and color guard and six attended the ceremony.
Sixteen members were in attendance or participated in the
Veterans Day ceremonies at the courthouse. Keith Wetherill,
membership director of the AMVETS state department in Springfield,
was the keynote speaker. Chaplain was Pastor Dan Wissman of Immanuel
Lutheran Church.
Then six AMVETS members participated in the color guard that
presented and retired the colors at Veterans Day ceremonies for
residents of the Christian Village. Members then visited residents.
AMVETS members have been participating in military funerals.
Work on the Veterans Honor Roll bricks has continued daily.
Currently, 1,803 bricks have been laid. For convenience, there is a
self-explanatory directory at the site and a container with forms
for ordering bricks. Please complete the forms, with checks attached
and send in orders immediately.

Under the hospital category, it was reported that preliminaries
are under way for Christmas gifts to three nursing home veterans.
Community service reported on the CITV5 interview in All Veterans
Park. Very good coverage was given and shown several times. Viewers
who have not visited the park could see just what the Veterans Honor
Roll bricks look like.
Haak reported on representing Post 71 at 3rd Division
meetings and state executive committee meetings, a 4th
National District commander's testimonial, and attending the wake of
a former state commander.
A member donated to Katrina relief.
Member Bill Bryson explained that the Logan County Genealogical
and Historical Society is publishing a second book on Logan County
veterans, "This Is My Story," and handed out forms to order listings
in the book.
