ATLANTA -- Harriet M. Ewing, 96, of Atlanta died Tuesday,
June 28, 2005, at 3:25 p.m. at the McLean County Nursing Home
in Normal.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Atlanta
Christian Church, with Maurice Stribling officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Quiram Funeral
Home and one hour before the service at the church on Sunday.
Burial will be in McLean Cemetery.
Mrs. Ewing was an executive secretary at State Farm
Insurance Company for 25 years. After retiring in 1973 she did
volunteer work in the Ewing campaign office several years. She
also volunteered her service for the Christian Nursing Home in
Lincoln and Bartmann Nursing Home, rural Atlanta.
She was born Dec. 15, 1908, at Atlanta to Harry and Ottie
French Irish. She married Samuel Y. Ewing on Nov. 19, 1931, at
Mount Vernon.
She is survived by two sons, Nate H. (and Donna) Ewing of
Armington and Thomas W. (and Connie) Ewing of Pontiac; five
grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Irish of Little Rock,
Ark.; and one sister, Sue McKown of Lincoln.
One brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Atlanta Christian Church for
80-plus years.
She had been a resident of the McLean County Nursing Home
since August 2004. Prior to that, she lived at Blair House in
Normal for four years.
She graduated from Atlanta High School and Brown's Business
College.
She cared most about her family, church and garden.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Atlanta Christian
Church, Atlanta Rescue Squad, or the Atlanta Public Library
and Museum.

'Cap' Ey

LINCOLN -- Vincent "Cap" Ey, 91, of Lincoln died Sunday,
June 26, 2005, at 10:30 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in
Springfield.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. July 9, at Holland and Barry
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.
Mr. Ey retired from Logan County Bank in 1985 as vice
president and board member. He had been an operational partner
in Ey's Bakery from 1947 to 1968.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was born Jan. 18, 1914, at Mount Pulaski to Charles A.
and Louise M. VonDer Heide Ey. He and his wife, Mildred
"Bugs," were married Aug. 10, 1947, in Mount Pulaski. She died
Sept. 22, 2000.
He is survived by three grandchildren, Dr. Steven (and
Dalia) Ey of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; Cynthia L. Ey of Geneseo and
Kathryn Espirite of Munster, Ind.; one great-grandson, Omar Ey;
one sister, Louise Ey of Mount Pulaski; two nephews, Dr. John
Ey of Portland, Ore., and Gary Ey of Springfield; and one
niece, June A. Reich of Western Springs.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Dr. Richard Ey;
two brothers, Otto H. Ey and Carl W. Ey; and one sister,
Lillian Hutchcraft.
He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ.
