[JULY 30, 2005]  At a recent meeting of Lincoln AMVETS Post 71, a new member, Bruce Huskins, was welcomed. Also introduced were several individuals who became members during the year or were at their first meeting. All were welcomed and invited to return.

Correspondence was read, including several thank-yous from recipients of the Christmas gift bathrobes.

Lester Van Bibber, co-chairman of the Veterans Honor Roll project, expressed his deep appreciation for the assistance received from members. As of this report, there are 1,615 brick orders. Van Bibber urged members who know of anyone who wants a brick to get the orders in, as another laying will be done any day now, just as soon as the bricks are completed.

Van Bibber complimented Michael Haak on the directory that is now installed on the College Avenue side of the bricks, allowing anyone to find the brick that they are seeking. He also mentioned that a container is there with forms to order the bricks.

Election of new officers and appointments of chairmen were as follows:

  • Arnold Haak -- commander and finance officer
  • Michael Haak -- 1st vice commander
  • William Bryson -- 2nd vice commander
  • Larry Van Bibber -- adjutant
  • Lester Van Bibber -- judge advocate and chaplain
  • Bruce Huskins -- provost marshal
  • Nancy Haak and Everett Cobb -- service officers

After a discussion it was decided to rededicate the All Veterans Park and dedicate the AMVETS Veterans Honor Roll sometime in the spring of 2006. Michael Haak was appointed chairman and Bruce Huskins co-chairman.

Reports were given by all officers and chairman, showing the total hours expended on projects as 1,287, with 3,191 miles driven and a dollar evaluation of $82,157.81.

Commander Haak welcomed all members of Post 71 and individuals eligible to join AMVETS to attend the next scheduled meetings, Sept. 19 and Nov. 21. The post and auxiliary meet at the same time, and all meetings start at 4 p.m.

In conclusion, the auxiliary served the post members a lovely surprise lunch.
