Governor signs bills affecting strikers and tourism

[MARCH 8, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed the following bills into law on Monday:

Senate Bill 1994

Concerning: Unemployment insurance

Description: Amends provisions of the Unemployment Insurance Act. Provides that a locked-out employee is not disqualified from receiving unemployment insurance benefits under specified circumstances. Makes numerous changes in the criteria to be used in determining whether a locked-out employee is disqualified from receiving benefits.

Action: Approved

Effective: Immediately

Senate Bill 2220

Concerning: Tourism development

Description: Provides that a business district retailers' occupation tax and a business district service occupation tax may not be imposed upon food for human consumption that is to be consumed off the premises where it is sold, other than alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and food that has been prepared for immediate consumption.

Action: Approved

Effective: Immediately
