MOUNT PULASKI -- Jean M.
Matthews, 84, of Mount Pulaski, died Thursday, May 12, 2005,
at 9:15 a.m. at her home.
Private services at a later
date will be conducted by Jack Gasaway, a friend of the
family.
Burial will be in Camp Butler
National Cemetery, Riverton.
Mrs. Matthews was a nurse
anesthetist.
She was born Aug. 26, 1920, in
Melbourne, Australia, to Mr. and Mrs. James Ogden. She married
William Joseph Matthews in St. Louis, Mo., in September of
1961.
She is survived by her
husband, Joe Matthews of Mount Pulaski; one brother, Robert
Ogden of Melbourne, Australia; and one sister, Maria Comino of
Melbourne, Australia.
One sister, Millicent,
preceded her in death.
She was a member of Latham
Methodist Church and the Nurse Anesthetist Association of
Chicago.

LINCOLN -- Donabelle J.
Oldham, 71, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at 8:10
p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8
p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
Her funeral will be at 10:30
a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln,
with the Rev. Jame Hahs and the Rev. Julie Azbell officiating.
Burial will be in Zion
Cemetery.
Mrs. Oldham retired in 1989
from Magna Bank, where she was supervisor of the proof
department.
She was born June 1, 1933, at
Oconee to Loren and Vera Nowlin Manuel. She married Thomas
Oldham on Aug. 31, 1952, at Pana.
She is survived by her
husband, of Lincoln; three sons, Tommy (and April) Oldham of
Delta Junction, Alaska, Bobby Oldham of Kenney and Billy (and
Julie) Oldham of Atlanta; one daughter, Jan Wood of Lincoln;
three grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren; one
step-great-grandchild; and one sister, Doris (and Floyd)
Hinton of Tower Hill.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, one brother, one sister and one grandson.
She was a member of the First
United Methodist Church and the church's Ruth Circle and was
associated with the Lincoln Food Pantry.
Memorials may be made to the
church, the food pantry or the American Kidney Foundation.

LINCOLN --
John E. Nighswander, 94, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at 5:45
p.m. at the Christian Village.
His funeral
will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lincoln Christian Church, with
Chaplain Ryan Edgecombe officiating. Visitation will be from
10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Burial will
be in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon.
Mr.
Nighswander worked at the General Electric plant in Mattoon
for 29 years. He retired in 1976.
He was born
Jan. 16, 1911, in Moultrie County to Grover and Mary Kirk
Nighswander. He married Reba Smith on April 1, 1933, at
Bridgeport. She died March 22, 2002.
He is
survived by four sons, Richard (and Donna) Nighswander of
LaGrange, Ronald (and Stelle) Nighswander of Philadelphia,
Pa., James (and Karen) Nighswander of Springfield and Thomas
(and Judy) Nighswander of Chicago; 17 grandchildren; and 38
great-grandchildren.
He was also
preceded in death by one brother, one sister and one daughter,
Nancy Sager.
He was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Mattoon.
Memorials

Phillip Schueth

LINCOLN -- A graveside service
for Phillip Herman Schueth will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at
Holy Cross Cemetery, with the Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating
Mr. Schueth died Sept. 30,
2004, at age 66 at his home in Crossett, Ark.
Peasley Funeral Home is in
charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Schueth had a 50-year
career in railroad work.
He served in the U.S. Air
Force.
He was born Nov. 13, 1937, in
Freeport to Herman A. and Hildegarde Arens Schueth. He married
Mary Jane Klemm.
He is survived by his wife, of
Crossett, Ark.; his children, Stephen Schueth of Cabot, Ark.,
Gail Schueth of Aspen, Colo., Katie Schueth of Denver, Colo.,
and Daniel Schueth of Chicago; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and one sister, Elizabeth Schueth.
He began his career as a
railroad man in 1954 at the age of 16 as a switchman, brakeman
clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad in Freeport and
Champaign. He graduated from the University of Illinois in
1965 with a bachelor's degree in economics of transportation.
From 1965 through 1974 he worked as a management trainee,
industrial engineer trainmaster and assistant superintendent
for Illinois Central Railroad. In 1974, he became general
manager of the Ashley Drew & Northern Railroad in Crossett,
Ark. He was promoted to vice president of operations in 1977
and vice president and general manager in 1992. From 1996
until his retirement in January of 2004, he served as vice
president and general manager of the Fordyce & Princeton,
Arkansas Louisiana & Mississippi, and Gloster Southern
Railroads.
He was a member of Holy Cross
Catholic Church in Crossett, Ark., where he served as chair of
finance, eucharistic minister, lector and cantor.
He will be remembered by his
family as a loving and devoted husband and father.
