Gov. Blagojevich pledges to sign attorney general's lifetime parolee supervision initiative       Send a link to a friend

[MAY 19, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- Statement from Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich on Tuesday:

"Today, I urge members of the Senate to pass House Bill 2386, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's legislation that would make Illinois one of only 14 states requiring lifetime supervision of the state's most dangerous sex offenders. This is critical and common-sense legislation necessary to protecting our families and communities.

"Parolee supervision is an issue that my administration is deeply committed to. In 2003, we launched Operation Spotlight, a four-year plan to double the number of parole agents, strengthen supervision for high-risk offenders, and employ new case management and practices to reduce recidivism. And, our budget proposal for next fiscal year includes funding to hire 31 more parole agents and support staff to expand monitoring of sex offenders.

"I applaud the attorney general's work on this important issue, and I look forward to signing the legislation."
