[NOV. 11, 2005]
BLOOMINGTON -- In November 1919, President Woodrow
Wilson set aside Nov. 11 to commemorate Armistice Day, saying: "To
us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with
solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's
service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the
thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it
has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the
councils of the nations."

On Veterans Day, we honor the men and women who left their home and
families to defend our rights. These brave souls fought for our
freedom, and many did not return. We honor their sacrifices, their
courage and their determination to succeed, not for themselves but
for all of us. It is because of veterans, those before them, those
fighting today and those who follow afterward that we enjoy this
liberty. We owe them our thanks, our gratitude and our admiration.

Sen. Bill Brady,
44th District]
